Losing weight is not easy and there are plenty of diet plans on the market promising to help.

A doctor has revealed cutting certain foods could be the best way to get results.

Dr Michael Mosley shared what foods to remove if looking to hit your weight loss goals.

He listed the four food groups to ditch – sugar, sugary treats, drinks and desserts.

The expert recommended swapping starchy carbs and sugary treats for healthy, whole foods.

Eating too much sugar can contribute to weight gain and the expert suggested cutting this altogether.

This isn’t just chocolate bars, pastries and cakes, however.

He explained breakfast cereals and commercial smoothies can be packed with lots of extra sugar.

Dr Mosley said: “That includes most breakfast cereals, which are usually full of sugar, as well as most commercial smoothies.“

Starchy carbs are also often packed full of sugar, so ditching these could do wonders for the waistline.

Dr Mosley suggested cutting white bread, pasta, potatoes and white rice.

Instead, slimmers can choose healthier carbs like whole rye, wild rice and whole grains.

Dr Mosley is the founder of The Fast 800 and the 5:2 diet, which is a form of intermittent fasting.

He also recommends following a Meditterean Diet plan which is full of healthy fats, whole foods and fresh fruits and vegetables.

When it comes to slimming down, fitness experts shared “simple and cheap” hacks to stay fit.

They explained what to do to “feel healthy” after the busy Christmas period.
