Dick Strawbridge detailed on his latest podcast episode how his 11-year-old son Arthur almost sparked chaos during the Cornwall leg of their family’s tour.
Strawbridge and wife Angel Adoree may have concluded their hit Escape to the Chateau series in 2022, but their strong fan base continues through their podcast and touring.
Their podcast, Dick and Angel’s Chat… Eau has recently focused on their UK tour, with the latest instalment seeing the couple reminisce about Cornwall.
The pair make clear their two children, Arthur and Dorothy, 10, are very much a part of their tours and the youngsters enjoyed travelling the UK with their parents to meet fans of the family, who found fame in 2016 when they upped sticks and moved to a French chateau.
However, it seems Arthur sparked an age-old debate that sent the Cornish audience into a frenzy during the tour in the south west county.
Hinting at a specific form of rivalry Cornwall has with neighbouring area Devon, Arthur’s question led to “security” worries, according to Strawbridge, 65.

“The Cornish show was lively, it was lovely,” he shared on the latest podcast instalment.
“Yeah, first of all the theatre, can I just say how beautiful that theatre is?” Adoree, 46, agreed.
She added: “Because I love old-fashioned theatres, you know, anything traditional. Even the art decor – this was quite a modern theatre, but it has all the old walls and the feel inside and how the seats were laid out…
“There’s something about it and all of the people that work at front of house are volunteers, and there’s a real passion about it.”

“And they’re really protective as well,” Strawbridge noted, adding: “They want to make sure that everything’s done right, and that’s so, so lovely.
“Our performance there, we had a bit of fun, bit of a chat.
“Cornwall’s lively, to be Cornish is to be Cornish. But then the subject came up of cream teas…”
“Well, first of all, Arthur, because you know we do our little Q&A at the end, but Arthur went on the jack of all trades,” Adoree recalled.
She explained: “He’s going around with his microphones and he says to someone, ‘so how do you eat your scones?'”
“The little b****r, he knew,” Strawbridge exclaimed as he continued: “Because the tea towel he got in Exeter actually had a whole lot of different ways of eating them, the Devon and Cornwall scone sandwiches and the way different people do it.”

“And wow, it got lively,” he shared before elaborating: “To the point I could almost see a line of security people coming across the front of the stage!”
“It was the roar, wasn’t it? The laughter, it was so much fun,” Adoree commented.
Cream teas are often the subject of debate between the two counties, with the Cornish insisting jam should be spread on a scone before cream, and Devon arguing for the fillings to be done in the other way around.
