A Delta passenger has revealed how he was reprimanded after asking a fellow flyer to be quiet.

The frequent flyer took to Reddit to detail the shocking situation that saw him begging a woman to turn down the volume of her ‘loud’ phone call.

In a thread titled Delta, he explained that while sitting at the Salt Lake City Sky Club Lounge, Utah, he asked the woman to use earbuds because she was disturbing others in the suite.

He explained that the woman was on speaker phone with what sounded like a young child.

After hearing enough of the phone call, the man stood up and begged the woman to finish the exchange through her headphones.

However, his request was met with shock as the woman gave him a slew of snarky looks.

She was stunned that anyone would ask her to quiet down and then branded the man ‘incredibly rude.’

The exasperated man asked people on the web to give him advice as he questioned if he was out of line.

The post was titled: ‘I asked a women to use headphones today.’

He explained: ‘Currently in the SLC Sky Club. A woman was on speaker phone with what sounded like a young child. This is a fairly large club, but even so we could all hear the child, and I was sitting about 30 feet away.

‘Since I read comments all the time where people say to approach the person, I did. I walked up to her and said, “Excuse me, would you mind using headphones? That’s louder than you realize and we can all hear you.”

‘She seemed shocked, then told me she thought it was incredibly rude of me to say that. I just shrugged and walked away.

‘But she did either turn the volume down or use headphones because we can no longer hear! Success, I think? Was I rude?’

People on the web flocked to the comments section and praised the man for putting his foot down.

Other people slammed the woman for speaking loudly on the phone.

One person said: ‘You were spot on. It’s not rude to ask someone to follow social norms.’

Someone else wrote: ‘You were not rude. Rude people (her) don’t get to dictate to others who or what is rude. She was probably just shocked and embarrassed in the moment and took it out on you. Thank you for speaking up.’

Another user added: ‘You were not rude. People have forgotten how to have manners!’

‘Good for you!! I wish I had the nerve to do that more often. Most of the time I just grumble and shoot dirty looks – so bravo to you for being more direct,’ commented a fourth person.
