Davina McCall broke down in tears as she addressed attendees at a charity event this week following her brain tumour surgery.

The mother-of-three, 57, explained to fans on social media last month that she’d be undergoing a procedure to treat a rare but benign brain tumour, and has been updating followers on her health ever since.

The presenter has assured fans that her recovery period has been going well with the help of her partner, Michael Douglas.

On Thursday, around one month after her major surgery, she attended a charity event run by the Brain Tumour Research Campaign, where she delivered a tearful and heartfelt speech.

Taking to the stage, she commented: “I’m crying already, that didn’t go well,” before sharing that she had lost her sister to a brain tumour in 2012 and detailing her own diagnosis.

The charity thanked the Masked Singer judge for her speech, posting the clip and writing on Instagram: “What a truly magical Christmas celebration evening!

“A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in making this event so special.

“Our evening began with our incredible Chairman, Kevin O’Neill @brain.surgeon.uk setting the tone with his warmth and passion.

“We were then moved by the inspiring words of the wonderful @davinamccall who shared her personal story with such courage and grace.

“Her message about the importance of funding for brain tumour research truly resonated with us all. Thank you, Davina, for being such a powerful voice for this cause.”

O’Neill had been McCall’s neurosurgeon, and her partner Douglas also supported the presenter by attending the event alongside her.

In November, McCall shared the initial news ahead of her surgery, planning the post to be sent out on her social media close to her procedure.

“Hi, so when I’m posting this it will be Friday morning,” she announced, adding: “I’m posting it because a few months ago I did a menopause talk for a company and they offered me a health scan in return, which I thought I was going to ace, but it turned out I had a benign brain tumour called a colloid cyst, which is very rare.

“Three in a million! So I slightly put my head in the sand for a while, and then I saw quite a few neurosurgeons, I got lots of opinions.

“I realised that I have to get it taken out. It’s big for the space – it fills the space. It’s 14mm wide. And it needs to come out because if it grows it would be bad.”

Douglas also appeared in the video, offering reassurance to fans.

“Just letting people know that I will have my eye on her throughout this procedure!” he vowed.

The 48-year-old, who has been with McCall since 2019, joked: “In fact I offered to do the operation, just to make sure it was done properly! They wouldn’t let me. She’s in very good hands.”

“Also, I’m okay. It’s been up and down, obviously. We’ve been through a lot,” McCall added.

Since then, the couple have each shared updates on McCall’s progress, with hair stylist Douglas explaining his partner plans to return to work in mid-January.
