Comedian David Walliams has admitted a new comedy show he and Little Britain co-star Matt Lucas are working on will be “edgy” in a similar fashion to the controversial series which ran from 2003 to 2006.
The 52-year-old’s once-popular comedy show has in recent years been “cancelled” after some scenes were branded “racist” and offensive.
Walliams and Lucas also starred together in Come Fly With Me, which similarly faced some backlash in today’s cancel culture era after running between 2010 and 2011.
Despite calls from the woke for the show’s cancellation in popular culture and Walliams himself being the centre of a controversy that saw him leaving his Britain’s Got Talent role last year, the actor has suggested he won’t be toning down his humour style in his and Lucas’ reunion project.
While there aren’t yet many details surrounding the show, Walliams told Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch on their Therapy Crouch podcast: “It’s a little bit edgy.”
He continued: “There are jokes in it that, I mean, are in terrible taste – I mean not in terrible taste – but, you know, like, like, Little Britain was, like Come Fly With Me, like a lot of comedy is, which is, on the edge.

“It’s walking a line. Some people might be a little bit shocked.”
Elaborating further, Walliams continued: “Do you watch Netflix comedy specials? Dave Chappelle, Jimmy Carr, Ricky Gervais? They’re all really way over the line, edgy.
“They’re very exciting and funny and shocking and all these things and the thing is, a lot of people – not everybody, but a lot of people – like it that way, don’t they?”
He went on to liken his upcoming show to Monty Python’s Life of Brian and Mel Brooks’s The Producers, both of which faced some backlash over “offensive” content after being aired.

“I’ve always liked things that are on the edge, but I do think it depends where you’re doing it and what time you’re doing it,” Walliams went on.
“I like edgy comics. Jimmy Carr, I think is amazing. Frankie Boyle was incredible… I’ve always liked the rude stuff, and the dangerous stuff and the shocking stuff.”
He also explained the new show would be made up of “entirely new” characters.
“It’s good fun writing together, it does make a change from writing on your own, which is quite lonely [compared to] the two of us bouncing off each other,” he added.

Continuing, he stated: “And also, you know, Matt is such an amazing performer with all his voices and everything, it’s brilliant to see.
“And he can key into a performance a lot quicker than I can, so we’ve had a lot of fun.”
