Sandals, sun cream and a nice evening outfit are all items that any regular holidaymaker on a cruise will have on their packing list.

But according to cruise experts, binoculars should also be brought along too.

Marella Cruises’ Hotel Operations Manager, Sue Stewart, recommends first-time cruises and more seasoned travellers alike need to pack the small but useful item.

A pair of binoculars will allow passengers to take in beautiful views of the next port as the ship approaches.

Sue explains, ‘If customers want to get an early glimpse of the next port whilst enjoying an early morning coffee, remember to pack binoculars so no view is missed!’

What’s more, the handy item may also allow cruisers to catch a glimpse of sea life.

‘They are also great for viewing marine life such as dolphins and fish,’ Sue adds.

There are several other items the expert recommends cruise goers pack, including a motion sea band.

Passengers might not be aware of how they feel at sea, especially if they haven’t been on a cruise before, and this can help battle any sea sickness.

‘If a customer has not cruised before, customers might want to wear a motion sea band,’ Sue says.

‘It works on the pressure points to help reduce any feeling of sickness. It’s also reusable so can be used time and time again.’

A reusable water bottle might also come in handy, especially as some ships have water stations for easy refills.

Meanwhile, extra plugs and an adapter are always good to have plenty of to make sure all your devices are properly charged and ready to use.

‘Stay charged throughout the time on the cruise and bring a plug adaptor to ensure all the gadgets and gizmos are fully charged throughout the cruise holiday – especially if the customer has many electronic devices,’ Sue explains.

Something first-time cruisers might not consider is how the sea air could affect their skin.

Sue recommends packing lip balm and making sure to use it when on the ship to prevent any discomfort.

She adds, ‘Fresh sea air can sometimes leave lips dry and chapped.

‘Bring some lip balm, especially during those sea days, to keep them nice and moisturised.’

Sue comments: ‘Embarking on a cruise holiday with friends, family, or as a solo traveller is incredibly thrilling. Over the course of a week or more, customers will have the opportunity to explore numerous ports of call along their itinerary.

‘While preparing for a holiday can feel overwhelming, following these tips and packing these items will ensure customers are well-prepared and eager for an unforgettable cruise experience!’
