Coronation Street has confirmed that Paul Foreman’s funeral will see a former character return, as Paul’s family and friends gather to say their final goodbyes.
Following Paul’s sad death after living with Motor Neurone Disease, his husband Billy Mayhew and mum Bernie Winter have been at odds over his funeral, with vicar Billy desperate for a traditional church ceremony and Bernie favouring a colourful rave.
As the pair continue to disagree about the arrangements next week, Billy offers an olive branch by suggesting to Bernie that they should choose the funeral flowers together. Sadly, this just ends in another fight between them.

Bernie later tells Dev Alahan that, although she can’t give Paul the funeral that she wanted to, she is determined to find the best place to bury his ashes after the ceremony. What exactly does Bernie have in mind?
As Paul’s funeral day arrives, emotional Billy gets ready to conduct the service as he reflects on the fact that the day would have been his and Paul’s first wedding anniversary.
After he arrives at the church, Billy is appalled when he spots Paul’s estranged dad Denny lurking in the shadows, especially when he realises that Denny is drunk. Knowing that everyone would be furious to see Denny following his previous plan to steal from Paul, Billy orders him to stay hidden.

As the funeral begins, Todd, Summer, Kit, David, Chesney and Dee-Dee carry Paul’s coffin down the aisle of the church, with Bernie and Gemma walking behind.
Billy begins to lead the service, addressing Paul’s loved ones as they come together to grieve. Will the ceremony go to plan, or will uninvited guest Denny find a way to cause trouble?

Bernie star Jane Hazlegrove has spoken out about the tensions between Bernie and Billy over Paul’s funeral, confirming that Bernie’s rave will go ahead.
“She basically throws a rave to remember him, so she gets everyone involved and there’s this massive rave that we shot over two nights, which was a really good release. We were all quite knackered!” she said.
“Bernie has an idea of what she wants to do with the ashes too. It’s not very conventional.”
Coronation Street will air these scenes on Monday, September 30 and Wednesday, October 2.
