Coronation Street spoilers follow from Friday’s episode (July 5), which is available to watch early on streaming service ITVX.

Coronation Street’s Toyah Battersby has received upsetting news at the hospital in the show’s latest episode.

An unexpected twist in Toyah’s storyline was revealed in Friday’s visit to Weatherfield, which has been released early on ITVX.

Corrie and Emmerdale are both currently dropping episodes at 7am on the day of broadcast on ITVX, allowing fans to watch at their leisure while schedules are being disrupted by Euro 2024 coverage.

Earlier this week, Toyah experienced severe stomach pains and was rushed to hospital, where she was told that she was pregnant.

As Nick Tilsley is the only man that Toyah has slept with recently, the pair were startled by the consequences of their recent decision to betray Leanne – Toyah’s sister and Nick’s long-term partner.

Despite this, Toyah was keen to keep the baby as she reflected on the years of struggles she’d faced to conceive a child.

However, as Toyah remained in hospital in Friday’s episode, she received the sad news that she wasn’t pregnant after all.

Toyah was told that she may have ovarian cancer, which would explain the false positive result.

A doctor explained: “I’ve taken a good look at your scans. We’ve found a growth on one of your ovaries. Some tumours can give a false positive on a pregnancy test, hence the misunderstanding here.

“We’ve checked your bloods, they show elevated levels of a protein called CA125. Sometimes that can indicate ovarian cancer – not always. We’re going to move quickly. We’ll do a biopsy and a CT scan to give me a clearer idea.”

Leanne promised to support Toyah at the hospital and cancel her latest session with The Institute, but she later changed her mind after pressure from Rowan Cunliffe.

This risked becoming the final straw for Nick, who questioned Leanne’s decision to keep prioritising The Institute over everything else in her life.

In a heart-to-heart with his brother David, Nick admitted that he was secretly disappointed to lose out on the chance to have a child with Toyah.

Venting his frustrations over Leanne, Nick explained: “It’s like she’s turned into someone else, someone that I don’t recognise. I’m not sure that I’m in love with her anymore.”

On whether he loves Toyah instead, he replied: “I don’t know – I don’t know anything anymore.”

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday at 9pm on ITV1.
