Coronation Street Mason star’s famous dad says ‘I knew it’ after long-awaited court scenes

The famous dad of Coronation Street star Luca Toolan has joined in with the commentary after his son’s character was told he’ll face a custodial sentence in new scenes. Fans of the ITV soap have been waiting for Weatherfield High student Mason Radcliffe, played by the newcomer, to get his comeuppance.

As Corrie viewers know, Mason has been the leader of the heartbreaking bullying storyline which has seen the new character being relentless in his targeting Liam Connor Jnr ever since his arrival on screen last year. But he hasn’t been alone in the taunting and abuse of the fellow teen with his gang of mates, including Liam’s neighbour and former friend Dylan Wilson, also involved.

The bullying campaign, which included Mason pulling a knife on a terrified Liam, recently resulted in the heartbreaking discovery that Liam was contemplating taking his own life with his mum Maria Connor watching his every move as she did what she could to get help and justice for her son.

But after more concerning behaviour from Mason, including threatening Dylan into changing his statement, things seemingly came to a head during the latest episode of Corrie on Monday night (April 8) as both Liam and Dylan faced Mason in court.

While Liam was asked questions about his emotional experience at the hands of the teenage bully, Dylan was conflicted about telling the truth about all that went on due to Mason threatening him and his family. He did, however, eventually tell the truth and Mason appeared to be facing the full force of the law.

The judge told the courtroom: “Having reviewed all evidence, this court finds you guilty of threatening Liam Connor in a public place with a knife on 22 November 2023. In part, I have arrived at this verdict due to your unwillingness to give testimony in your own defence.

“But, I couldn’t have come to my decision without the evidence of the entirely credible witness statements we have heard today. I will adjourn your sentencing for one week to hear from your youth justice worker. However, given that this is your second knife crime offence I warn you that as a matter of law, the only sentence available for me is a sentence of imprisonment.”

Following the scenes, Luca’s dad Mike Toolan, who currently co-host Hits Radio’s drivetime show with Gemma Atkinson, shared a picture of his son as Mason being given his verdict on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, and said: “Guilty! I knew it!”

He then added: “What an episode @coronationstreet Bloody amazing acting all round [clapping emojus]. And Liam’s face in the 2nd pic,” to which Luca replied: “Thanks Dad.” But Luca’s co-star Simon Gregson, aka Steve McDonald, was quick to joke: “I blame the parents here looks wrongun.”

And Mike’s post prompted more praise for the three young actors from Corrie viewers. @alisonfitz15 said: “Well done Luca! All three lads were amazing and @samia_longchambon was fabulous too, cried buckets.” @wendy_skelton14 commented “Glad to see that Mason didn’t get away with it. Well done @lucatoolan for playing Mason so well.”

@lezloeck wrote “These young actors have been amazing. @lucatoolan will be back.” @wademelissa85 added: “Fantastic acting and such an important story to get out. It wasn’t a easy watch but hats off to all the talented actors for getting the message about bullying out there.”
