Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has hinted at a future storyline for Alya Nazir as she leaves Weatherfield.

Wednesday’s (May 8) episode was a temporary farewell for Alya, as actor Sair Khan begins her break from the cobbles for maternity leave.

In the lead-up to Alya’s farewell, there have been hints of a romantic spark between her and Adam Barlow — who is now trying to move on from his split from Sarah Barlow.

It looked like their romance would lead to disastrous consequences when they were caught kissing in the law office by their boss Rich.

Rich decided it would be best for Alya to take a pre-planned work placement in Dublin for the foreseeable future, while Alya and Adam subsequently agreed to cool things off.

As Alya prepared to leave Weatherfield in the latest instalment, Yasmeen asked if she’d miss Adam while in Dublin.

“I can sense the tension between the both of you,” Yasmeen pointed out.

Alya explained that “if there was something” between her and Adam, it would have to stop because she was leaving town.

“Just as well, that boy’s been through a lot, he’s a troubled soul,” Yasmeen insisted. “Maybe you can find a nice Irish lad without complications?”

Alya countered: “Why do I have to find any boy? I’d rather just go and do my job.”

When Alya got in her taxi to leave town, she opened her lawbook to find a handwritten inscription signed: “Love Adam x.”

Will the pair strike up a proper romance once Alya returns?

Cast member Sair Khan announced in December that she was expecting her first child with partner Nathan Chilton, saying at the time: “We’re so excited for the arrival of Baby Chilton in spring 2024.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
