Conor McGregor has revealed that he is still no clearer on when he will make his long-awaited return to competition.

The Irishman’s last UFC fight came when he suffered a catastrophic leg injury during his loss to Dustin Poirier in their trilogy fight at UFC 264 back in 2021.

McGregor has since resumed full training and has been angling for a return to the Octagon, with rumours swirling that he would face Michael Chandler in the main event of the landmark UFC 300 card set to take place next year.

The 35-year-old even suggested as much on social media back in November, replying to a fan that he is ‘in’ for UFC 300.

However, speaking at the Day of Reckoning boxing event in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, McGregor claimed that negotiations with the UFC surrounding his return are not currently proving fruitful and that instead a return to boxing may be his next move.

‘Get me back in there. Get the Mac back in there.’ McGregor told talkSPORT.

‘The Mac has loads to offer and loads to deliver. They’re talking Manny (Pacquiao) here in Saudi, the lads in the UFC aren’t really talking anything, the lads here talking manny the lads in the UFC aren’t really talking anything. So I’m sitting here as usual.

‘I’m talking about give me something, I’m supposed to be back in April but it was supposed to be December.

‘For all the figures, I’ve brought into this game, I sell more than them all combined, no-one in the history of the fight game has ever been treated the way that I am being treated at this minute.

The Hook double

‘They f****** should open floodgates for me and I’m waiting and I’m waiting and I’m waiting. My patience has been wearing thin.’

The former two-weight world champion was seated front-row at the event which saw Deontay Wilder lose to Joseph Parker, and Anthony Joshua get his third victory of the year by defeating Otto Wallin.

During the event fans on social media posted jokes about the Irishman sitting alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, likening the encounter to being ‘cornered at a party’.
