With Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera expected to be fired, owner Josh Harris reportedly has his eyes set on an ideal candidate to be his replacement.
According to Pro Football Talk, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick could be pursued by Harris and the Commanders.
It’s claimed that Harris is ‘enamored with the idea’ of Belichick coaching Washington – despite the 71-year-old overseeing a dismal season for New England.
After a 4-13 finish, Belichick is set to discuss his future in New England with owner Robert Kraft. In the event of his departure, Belichick should not be short of options.

Belichick also doubles as the Patriots’ general manager and one possible stumbling block regarding any move to Washington would be whether Harris would give Belichick full control over personnel.
After Sunday’s 17-3 loss to the Jets on Sunday, Belichick walked from the Gillette Stadium field for what could be the final time.
The coach arrived in Foxborough in 2000 and built a dynasty centered around Tom Brady. Belichick led New England to 17 AFC East titles, nine Super Bowl appearances and six titles.
Unfortunately, the Patriots have struggled post-Brady, especially in the last four years. This season, the Patriots will receive a top-four pick in the NFL Draft due to being one of the worst teams in the league.
Like the Patriots, the Commanders have also been suffering this season, finishing with the same record as New England.
