Coleen Rooney was among the guests welcomed by King Charles on Wednesday for an event celebrating the contributions of both paid and unpaid carers across the country.

The 39-year-old, who recently appeared on I’m A Celebrity, has been a longstanding advocate for care-related charities, including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Upon meeting the 77-year-old monarch, Ms Rooney performed a curtsy before engaging in conversation with the King inside the historic royal residence.

For the occasion, she opted for a polished ensemble consisting of a cream pinstripe blazer paired with coordinating tailored trousers.

Her attendance at the event reflects her deep personal ties to caring causes, shaped significantly by her family’s own experiences with foster care.

Ms Rooney’s connection to the cause is deeply personal, stemming from her family’s decision to foster a young girl named Rosie when she was just two years old.

The McLoughlin family, who had previously offered respite care, welcomed Rosie into their home permanently.

Rosie lived with Rett syndrome, a rare neurological condition that results in severe disabilities, throughout her life.

She passed away in 2013 at the age of 14, having been brought home to spend her final moments surrounded by her loved ones.

The loss profoundly affected Ms Rooney, who has spoken openly about how the experience shaped her perspective on family and caring responsibilities.

Were Rosie still alive today, she would be 26 years old.

Just last month, Ms Rooney marked the 12th anniversary of Rosie’s death with a poignant tribute on Instagram.

She posted a black-and-white photograph showing herself holding her younger sister, both smiling at each other, accompanied by the simple caption: “12 years” followed by a red heart emoji.

The television personality also opened up about her grief during her stint in the Australian jungle last November.

Her emotional revelation came after fellow campmate Barry McGuigan, the 63-year-old boxer, spoke tearfully about losing his daughter Danika to cancer in 2019 at the age of 33.

Confiding in campmates, Ms Rooney said: “Even when Rosie died, I kept it together for me mum and dad.”

She added: “It’s hard to lose a child, I’ve always said that so we’re lucky to have what we’ve got.”
