Speaking to Community Editor Michael Heaver in Westminster, Baroness Fox of Buckley gave an insight on David Cameron’s entry into the House of Lords.

Giving an inside glimpse of proceedings for GB News members, Fox said: “So first of all, we have to give him his full title. Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton. I mean, of course it’s a caricature in itself.”

Fox went on to declare that: “It’s an extraordinary turn of events. First of all, that in order to bring him back into government, they can just go behind the backs of the electorate.

“He’s not an MP. Just say, ‘oh, put him in the Lords and then we can make him a Cabinet Minister.

“I mean, it’s happened before, but it should never have happened. And the ease with which they did it and and the cynicism of doing it on the day that they sacked Suella Braverman as well.”

Fox went on to reveal how the whole day played out: “Then he came into the Lords to do the speech. But anyway, so I was there. I have diligently followed his career since he’s been in the House of Lords, which has been a week.

“You know when you wear the ermine is when you’re introduced to the Lords as as they say.

“And he came into the Lords in his ermine, and I was there for that. But the most significant thing is, although there’s I think nearly 800 members of the House of Lords, very often it’s not crowded, right?

“There’s, you know, packed house is rare in this instance. On this particular day, I went in, didn’t really realise what was happening and ‘thought, Oh my God, there’s a lot of people in for prayers’.”

Fox then went on to explain how the day played out: “Then I realised it was that they were all in to see David Cameron being introduced to the House of Lords. I mean, there was people sitting on the floor on the Tory side. I mean it was, you know, this is old people looking like they’re at Glastonbury or something. It’s ridiculous.

“So it’s a real fanboys element to this, which was distasteful to say the least.”

Baroness Fox then highlighted Lord Cameron’s remarks: “He then pointed out that he was aware of the fact that it was rather crowded in the house and that he was possibly responsible because he’s given most of the people their peerages. He then looked over at the Liberal Democrats benches and he said – he did actually say this – ‘I know that the Liberal Democrat benches are particularly full, I always said to my Deputy Prime Minister (and he then said partner and friend Nick Clegg) that his party would feel the benefit of the coalition over many years. I did not predict that it would be how it would manifest itself’. So you’re talking about a real Chumsey.”

Giving her thoughts on how events played out, Fox then said: “I’m absolutely furious.

“I’m furious because I remember when Jeremy Hunt got made the Chancellor.

“I remember waking up. I felt like I was kind of waking up and there’d been a military coup the night before. I was like, what is he doing there? Right. How did that happen?

“And I think with Cameron you read all the commentaries, this is very much what it feels like. It’s not only is it a complete slap across the face with red wall voters, it’s an abandonment effectively of that realignment that was promised in 2019.”
