Speaking in the GB Newsroom today, GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope disclosed that when it comes to the new record-high immigration numbers Tory MPs are furious.

He said: “Tory MPs are privately furious about these soaring net migration figures.

“Many people who voted Tory also voted to leave the European Union back in 2016 to control our borders. This government on its watch, has not done that.”

Giving an exclusive insight for GB News members, Christopher went to on to say: “The small boats issue is a big one, tens of thousands of people arriving illegally over the southern border. That’s a big problem. It looks bad for the government, the issue of illegal migrations is an issue for all developed countries.

“But net migration is the one thing the Tories can control and they haven’t done that.

“To see a figure of 1.2 million people arrive here net, that’s more arriving than leaving in the 24 months to June to 20/20/2023 is a big, big deal for Tories.

“There’s no answer yet from Rishi Sunak We’ll wait and see what he’ll say. Robert Jenrick, the Immigration Minister, has a five point plan.

“There’s pressure building though this weekend. We expect letters to go in signed by MPs urging the government next week to take action. That’s not no confidence letters. That’s letters urging more action, trying to try and give some political space for Robert Jenrick take some tough answers.”

Christopher concluded by evaluating where the government’s current policy sits: “We are a country mile, that’s a different planet, to where the government needs to be on net migration.

“Meanwhile, millions of people languish on benefits. It’s a complete mess. It’s the government’s own making and they’ve got to sort it out for many people.”
