A new Chinese brand has launched its first electric vehicles in the UK, with drivers being offered one of the most comprehensive deals on the market.

Geely Auto has become the latest brand to introduce itself to the UK market, with the new EX5 acting as the brand’s flagship electric vehicle.

Following an official launch in London last night, Geely has now opened its order books to customers for the EX5, which starts from £31,990.

The EX5 comes in three distinct models, namely the SE (£31,990), Pro (£33,990) and Max (£36,990).

The family-focused SUV has an impressive range of up to 267 miles, fast 160kW charging that delivers 30 to 80 per cent charge in just 20 minutes, and a 0-62mph time of 6.9 seconds.

Drivers will be welcomed into the car by a 15.4″ central touchscreen and a 10.2″ driver display above the steering wheel.

Technology is at the heart of the EX5, as highlighted by the impressive SiEngine StarEagle chip from British-based company, Arm, which aims to utilise artificial intelligence for the benefit of the motorist.

Commenting on the launch, Michael Yang, General Manager of Geely Auto UK, praised the “hugely positive” response to its launch, adding that it gave the brand “great confidence”.

He noted that Geely had already secured almost 100 customer reservations prior to the official launch and over 1,000 expressions of interest.

He added: “We have strong ambitions for the UK market and over the next three years, we’ll introduce around 10 new models, expanding across multiple segments to deliver technologically focused, safe, smart and attainable electric mobility.”

First deliveries of the Geely EX5 are expected to be completed by the end of the year as the Hangzhou-based brand aims to have 50 dealerships across the UK by the end of the year.

To incentivise drivers further, the automaker is introducing the Geely EV Grant until the end of the year.

Motorists can save £2,300 on the Geely EX5 SE, while the recommended on-the-road price of the EX5 Pro will drop £3,200 and the top-spec EX5 Max will be £3,750 cheaper.

Geely has also unveiled a number of crucial partnerships for charging operations, safety measures and top-of-the-range warranties.

All new EX5 customers will save £1,000 on the price of an Andersen EV home wallbox, or they could receive a £500 charging card with Octopus Electroverse.

The Andersen EV home wallbox has a market value of £1,499, while the Octopus EV has been announced as the first lease partner of Geely.

Customer deliveries of the Geely EX5 are expected to begin before the end of the year

Customers will have access to Octopus home and public charging solutions, while drivers can get behind the wheel through salary sacrifice and Intelligent EV schemes.

The Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, which is the most popular in the UK, could help motorists save £450 a year compared to a standard EV tariff, and more than £700 versus a petrol vehicle.

Mr Yang concluded, saying: “Geely Auto has come to the UK not just to sell cars, but to provide superior new energy mobility solutions.

“Our goal is to address user pain points with a comprehensive NEV (new energy vehicle) ownership ecosystem, making purchasing effortless and usage enjoyable, thereby accelerating the adoption of new energy vehicles.”
