The foods you eat greatly affect how quickly you will lose weight and, luckily, there are plenty of diet plans that offer advice.

One diet that has gained a lot of recognition is the Paleo diet, and an expert has told GB News how it can help with fat loss.

The diet involves eliminating processed foods from your diet plan, filling up on all things natural instead. Think “eating like our ancestors”.

Certified personal trainer Jim Richard said: “The paleo diet focuses on eating whole foods similar to what our ancestors would have consumed – lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

“By removing processed foods, sugars and grains, this diet naturally reduces calorie intake while improving our insulin sensitivity and metabolism.”

Taking processed foods that can often be high in sugar, fat and salt out of your diet plan will make it easier to avoid hidden calories.

Jim continued: “By sticking to unprocessed foods, you naturally consume fewer empty calories.

“Protein-rich foods, such as grass-fed meats, promote muscle growth, which in turn increases your basal metabolic rate.”

Protein is a great nutrient to include in any weight loss diet as studies have shown it is incredibly satiating, which means dieters can feel fuller while eating less.

It has also been shown to increase the metabolism, which affects how quickly the body burns fat. Jim highlighted more benefits of the plan.

He said: “A paleo diet’s also high in omega-3s and antioxidants, reducing inflammation, which can reduce fat loss.

“It encourages our body to function optimally, making fat burning more effective.”

The diet plan may not be suitable for everyone, however, so it is worth checking with a professional before starting the plan.

If you are trying it, the personal trainer shared important advice on how to get the best results.

He added: “Focus on quality, not just quantity. Where possible choose grass-fed meats, wild-caught fish, and organic produce to max the nutritional values.”

If the plan isn’t for you, Jim shared advice on another diet to help you burn fat without changing what you eat.
