From packing cubes to help organise luggage, to sleep masks that ensure passengers get some rest – there are plenty of travel ‘essentials’.

Even a tennis ball has been suggested to be surprisingly helpful to pop in carry-on bags.

But bungee cords can be useful to bring along on a trip, too.

The small and handy item has a range of uses, from keeping belongings together on the plane to even organising the hotel room, The Guardian reports.

Airplane tables are typically used to hold things when they are open, but with the help of a bungee cord, they can also be practical folded closed.

The publication’s Adam Doud discovered how nifty bungee cords can be when he wrapped a four around the table and immediately maximised his space.

Just a few cords strapped over the closed table can add more room for items to be securely held.

They can also be handy for elevating luggage, too.

Bungee cords can be wrapped around backpacks and cases to attach other items that travellers might want to be easily reachable.

Anything from a spare pair of shoes to a neck pillow can easily be added, and it saves space inside the luggage.

The crafty item can be used temporarily in hotel rooms to help organise things.

Tying one to a lampshade helps provide a safe spot for hanging hats, glasses and other essential items.

What’s more, they can also be used for keeping signs that usually fall off the hotel room door, in place.

‘Please clean’ or ‘do not disturb’ labels are often used in hotels for the guest to communicate with housekeeping.

But they don’t always stay in place when busy corridors and drafts knock them off the handle.

Thankfully, a simple bungee cord around the handle can help to hold the sign.

Laundry can be difficult to manage when travelling, especially if trying to avoid expensive charges in hotels.

A bungee cord can be used to help dry clothes and towels by simply attaching from one point in the bathroom to another to make a clothesline.

Another hotel hack is using the cord to hold charging cables in more reachable places.

Plug sockets are often located behind furniture or in difficult spots, but a bungee cord could be used to hold up the cable to a more accessible spot.
