Gil Gerard, the Arkansas-born actor who rose to fame as the sharp-tongued lead in NBC’s sci-fi series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, has died aged 82.
Mr Gerard, who had been living in Georgia, passed away following what his wife Janet described as a battle with a “rare and viciously aggressive” cancer, announcing the news in a Facebook post.
Before landing his breakout television role, Mr Gerard appeared in the 1977 disaster film Airport ’77 opposite Lee Grant and played a moonshiner in the Appalachian-set comedy Hooch.
He was later cast as Buck Rogers after being approached by Universal Television and producer Glen A. Larson.
