Amika Mirrorball High Shine + Protect Antioxidant Shampoo poses a ‘microbiological risk’

Affected consumers have warned that the shampoo could present health risks due to the presence or potential presence of harmful bacteria.

The OPSS stated: “The product poses a microbiological risk as it could have a change in odour and in rare cases cause temporary irritation due to the presence or potential presence of the bacterium P. Gergoviae.”

The contamination means the product fails to comply with Regulation 1223/2009 and the Cosmetic Products Enforcement Regulations 2013.

For further information, affected customers were advised to access the Amika website at the following link: https://loveamika.com/pages/recall.

Shoppers were reassured that no other Amika products were affected by the recall.

Amika told customers: “We have been monitoring recent feedback citing change in odour and in rare cases, temporary irritation. There have been no reported serious adverse health events associated with using this product. We initiated this recall after determining that various production batches at our third-party manufacturing site do not meet our stringent quality standards, due to the presence or potential presence of a bacterium called P. Gergoviae.

“If you have the product in your possession, please stop using it immediately, even if the product does not appear to have a change in odour or quality issue.

“We want to reassure you that, after consultation with an independent toxicology group, we are confident the use of this product does not pose a serious health or safety risk to healthy people. However, individuals with certain risk factors such as a weakened immune system or broken skin may be more susceptible to infection.

Those who purchased the product at TK Maxx should return it to a TK Maxx or Homesense store

“Amika takes pride in its commitment to vigorous consumer safety standards, which is why out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to voluntarily recover this product from retailers and to proactively reach out to consumers.”

One popular retailer that stocks the recalled product is TK Maxx. For products purchased here, Britons can access the TK Maxx website.

There, customers will find the necessary information on obtaining a refund or replacement product. Customers were advised to discontinue use and return to any TK Maxx or Homesense store.
