Without realising, many of us in our daily diets are consuming foods that are speeding up the ageing process. Whether that be eating pasta or bagels, these are all causing people to age quickly.

A YouTuber has taken to the platform to inform individuals about the dangers of these foods when it comes to longevity.

They described two food types that people need to cut out from their diets, with the first being trans fats.

Trans fats are a type of unsaturated fat which are considered unhealthy and can increase the risk of heart disease.

The expert said: “Trans fats damage your cell membranes and increase oxidative stress. It’s like a wrecking ball smashing through your cells.

“Fried foods like french fries and fried chicken are filled with trans fats because of the oils they’re cooked in.”

Pastries such as doughnuts or croissants and processed meats are also full of trans fats to improve the taste of the products.

The content creator encouraged Britons to cut these foods from their diets and said: “It is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay healthy and slow down ageing.”

The second food type that the expert recommended to cut from an individual’s diet is refined carbohydrates.

These are typically found in white bread, pizza and cereals, with them causing people to age faster due to the increase in blood sugar levels they produce.

“The issue lies in the glycemic index of foods,” explained the expert. “Foods high on the glycemic index cause your blood sugar to spike and when this happens, your body releases insulin to bring it back down and this constant blood sugar rollercoaster causes damage to your skin.”

This means wrinkles can develop faster and hinder the body from naturally producing collagen.

Healthy alternatives for people to incorporate into their diet instead of continuing to have refined carbohydrates include fruit and vegetables, whole-grain foods and legumes.

These foods are high in fibre and they do not cause blood sugar levels to spike and dip like refined carbohydrates do.

Alternatives to having trans fats include unsaturated fats which can be found in nuts, seeds and fish.

These can help lower bad cholesterol and improve blood sugar control.
