Britons in Jordan have been given some essential new information on the situation in Israel, Lebanon and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) provided a factual update on the debris from ballistic missiles that targeted Israel on October 1 and the reopening of Jordanian airspace.

Holidaymakers flock to Jordan for its unique adventures, including camel riding in the Wadi Rum desert and hiking along the Jordan Trail. It also boasts ancient architecture, stunning landscapes and excellent hospitality.

However, before planning a trip, holidaymakers should consult the UK Government’s advice. The FCDO told Britons: “Following recent developments in Israel, Lebanon, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, the security situation could change suddenly.

“On October 1, ballistic missiles targeted at Israel were intercepted over Jordan, including over Amman.

Holidaymakers in Jordan should be aware of ‘recent developments’ in Israel, Lebanon, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip

Jordan Tourism Board

“This resulted in falling fragments and debris in some parts of Jordan. If you encounter any projectile debris or fragments you should move away from them immediately and contact local authorities.

“Jordanian airspace was temporarily closed late on 1 October and subsequently reopened. Flight cancellations, diversions and potential disturbances to Global Positioning System (GPS) signals may occur at short notice.”

Holidaymakers were urged to “monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast”.

Tourists should follow and contact FCDO travel on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Travellers can also receive email notifications when this travel advice is updated.

Those who are affected by a crisis abroad should consult the FCDO’s advice. This includes how the FCDO defines a crisis, who and how the FCDO can help in a crisis, what holidaymakers should do in a crisis, how to prepare for a crisis, support in the UK after a crisis, and terrorist attacks.

If you are affected by a crisis abroad, contact the FCDO at (+44) (0)207 008 5000.

Before visiting Jordan, Britons are advised to read the FCDO’s up-to-date information on warnings and insurance, entry requirements, safety and security, regional risks, health and getting help.

Included in this is some essential safety information about regions of Jordan, including the Jordan-Syria border, Jordan-Iraq border and Jordan-Israel border.

Before visiting any destination abroad, it is advisable to consult the FCDO’s latest information to stay safe and be prepared.

This Jordan travel update comes as Britons were issued a travel warning for Dubai and more over the “fast-changing situation”.

Current UAE travel guidance reads: “Ongoing hostilities between Israel and Lebanon could escalate quickly and pose risks for the wider region.

“Monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast.”

Again, holidaymakers were advised to contact FCDO travel on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and get email notifications when this travel advice is updated.
