Drivers heading to the polls for the General Election tomorrow may be able to benefit from free parking, with one in 10 saying a lack of parking would prevent them from voting.

Tomorrow, Thursday, July 4, marks one of the most important General Elections in recent history as Britain takes to the ballot booth to decide who will run the next Government.

However, despite the optimism to vote, around one in 10 people said that not being able to find parking at the polling station was a concern.

Motorists voted that being allocated an impractical parking station and bad weather were cited as potential barriers preventing them from making it to the ballots.

JustPark said the offer would help vulnerable motorists

To deal with potential issues, JustPark is offering 30 minutes of free parking near polling stations tomorrow to mark the General Election.

The offer is available to registered JustPark users who pre-book a parking space via the app or the website all day on July 4.

The company said this would act as a huge benefit to drivers who have mobility issues or are pushed for time, ensuring they have the opportunity to cast their vote without being concerned about parking.

According to a survey conducted by the parking company, 42 per cent of people said they would be keen to drive to the polling station if it had free parking.

Similarly, 35 per cent of people said they would have no issues with voting if parking in the area was easy to find, prompting JustPark to give drivers the chance to get easy-to-find parking.

Mary Corrie, Managing Director of JustPark, UK, said: “Here at JustPark, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to vote, but know that on the day it isn’t always that straightforward.

“By offering free parking on Election Day, we hope to make it easier for all voters, especially those with mobility issues or who are short on time, to find a place to park near their polling station.

“This is the second time we have offered this service, following its great success in the 2019 election, and we are confident it will help to get people to the polls once again.”

Polling stations will open at 7am and close at 10pm, although people are able to vote as long as they are in the queue by 10pm.

Britons voting in person will need to carry photo ID before they cast their vote, with information about their local polling station contained on their poll card.

All political parties have released their manifesto pledges which include policies designed to protect motorists from high prices and overzealous companies and local authorities.

At the same time, major changes will be launched to impact the automotive industry, namely the future of the 2035 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans, in addition to the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate.
