The Miami Dolphins will be the ‘home’ team when the NFL plays its first ever game in Spain next season.

The historic Madrid game will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu, home of soccer giants Real Madrid.

The Dolphins’ opponents have yet to be confirmed but it marks the latest step in the NFL’s global expansion.

From the 2025 season, up to eight regular season games can be held outside the United States.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London will host two, with the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns confirmed as the ‘home’ teams.

The NFL will also head to the Olympic stadium in Berlin for a Germany game featuring the Indianapolis Colts.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, meanwhile, will be back at Wembley Stadium for a 14th ‘home’ game in London.

In total, 55 regular season NFL games have been played outside the United States in recent years, with other host cities including Frankfurt, Sao Paulo and Mexico City.

The Dolphins and the Chicago Bears hold marketing rights in Spain. ‘We are thrilled to play the NFL’s inaugural game in Spain, a country of rich history, tradition and passion and home to a vibrant Dolphins fanbase,’ Miami CEO Tom Garfinkel.

‘There is a hunger for football in this market, and we are proud to join with the NFL in growing the game internationally while engaging with old and new fans alike.

‘With the unique synergy between Miami and Madrid, we believe this is only the beginning for us in this incredible region and we look forward to bringing the excitement and community of Dolphins football to Spain in 2025 and beyond.’
