Biggest new car discounts revealed: Dealers are knocking thousands off these 17 popular models

Some people go absolutely mad for the January sales.

The lure of big savings on major high-street brands is an age-old tactic deployed by retailers to persuade customers to get their wallets out, even after an expensive Christmas period.

And it’s the same in car showrooms, with dealers willing to offer huge discounts on some of the road’s most popular names – but only if you know how much they’re really allowed to slash from the recommended retail price.

Car salesmen – often chasing commission on sales – won’t offer these discounts when you walk in the dealership door. But exclusive insight from Insider Car Deals reveals how much they are able to move on pricing for some sought-after motors at this very moment.

Its team of mystery shoppers have exclusively revealed to the Daily Mail and This is Money which cars can be had with the most money off, combining dealer discounts and manufacturer offers. And the best deals get you at least a fifth – and up to a third – chopped from the list price.

They also detailed what it would cost per month on a personal contract purchase (PCP) plan to secure the cars, which is how eight in ten buyers choose to take on new cars nowadays.

And it’s not just out-of-demand electric vehicles subject to monumental savings. Cars like the Volkswagen Golf and Nissan Qashqai – both among the top 10 best sellers in Britain – can be had with discounts worth thousands of pounds.

Here’s a rundown of the 17 new models with the largest savings – and we tell you how you can secure the best deal on the vehicle you want.

Daily Mail and This is Money has teamed up with Insider Car Deals to reveal which 17 cars in showrooms right now are available with the biggest discounts. Armed with this information, you can save over tens of thousands of pounds on a new motor

Pat Hoy, founder of Insider Car Deals, tells us that car market players have been ‘keen to get off to a flying start to the year’, which explains why there are significant savings available this month.

With the government mandating 33 per cent of all new model sales must be zero emission vehicles – essentially electric cars – it’s unsurprising we are seeing sizeable discounts on numerous battery-powered models in January.

But Pat says there’s discounting taking place across all fuel types.

Find out the most you should pay for a new car with Insider Car Deals

Insider Car Deals helps car buyers understand what new cars are really selling for based on independent research and real-world mystery shopping – not dealer adverts or headline offers.

If you already have a quote from a dealer, Insider Car Deals lets you sense-check it quickly, showing whether the price you’ve been offered is weak, average or genuinely strong. That insight alone can make a big difference when you’re deciding whether to accept a deal or push back.

Buyers also use the service to negotiate more confidently, armed with a deal sheet showing the realistic target price and an understanding of how much extra discount is typically achievable on their chosen model.

In many cases, this leads to significant extra savings beyond advertised offers – often far more than the cost of the service itself.

Insider Car Deals doesn’t sell cars and isn’t paid by dealers or manufacturers. Instead, it provides independent, model-specific pricing insight to help buyers avoid overpaying and buy with confidence.

‘Dealers try to get a good order bank going in the lead up to the all-important March new number plate month,’ he explains.

‘While many car manufacturers have visibly increased their range and value of sales incentives, this can mean that dealers use this as cover to try to offer lower dealer discounts.’

‘This is often reflected by online car sales platforms that typically only publish discounted prices that dealers want buyers to see, rather than what is actually achievable.’

Insider Car Deals instead uses expert market insight – and mystery shoppers who go into showrooms – to reveal what dealer discounts really are achievable.

‘Across all fuel types you can expect to negotiate a 12.9 per cent – or £5,918 – total saving when buying a new car, factory-ordered to your desired specification,’ Pat says.

‘Discounts jump to £7,102 on average for EVs.’

The total savings quoted include dealer discounts, savings provided by the manufacturer across all its showrooms, and PCP finance deposit contributions.

For EVs, the government’s Electric Car Grant is also inclusive. Many brands who have been rejected from Labour’s ECG have launched their own offers to match the government subsidy, which also means a better deal for buyers.

At a manufacturer level, Seat dealers are most generous at the end of January, typically offering 19 per cent – the equivalent of £5,967 – off its model range.

This is followed by Peugeot at 17.8 per cent (£6,705 average saving) and Nissan at 16.5 per cent (£6,239 average discount).

It means there are some amazing January sales discounts across electric, petrol, diesel and hybrid models. These are the 17 with the best deals currently:

Would these deals make YOU consider buying a new car now?

Despite being the third best-selling new car in Britain last year, there's a deal to be struck on a Nissan Qashqai. Finance deposit contributions combined with dealer discounts means you can save up to £7,600 on some trim levels

Despite being the third best-selling new car in Britain last year, there’s a deal to be struck on a Nissan Qashqai. Finance deposit contributions combined with dealer discounts means you can save up to £7,600 on some trim levels

The Nissan Qashqai earns its place among the UK’s top-selling cars not just because it’s a great all-rounder, but also thanks to the consistently strong discounts that Nissan and its dealers are prepared to offer.

Right now, buyers can get into a new Qashqai from a very competitive £252 a month on Nissan’s PCP deal. Finance deposit contributions of up to £4,000 per car are available alongside generous dealer discounts, allowing buyers to secure a saving of almost 21 per cent off the Hybrid N-Connecta model.

16. Volkswagen Golf – 21.4% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: Golf 1.5 TSI Life 5dr

Retail price: £28,895

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £22,992 (£5,903 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £263

A perennial favourite, you can barely turn a corner in the UK without seeing a VW Golf. But strong finance deposit contributions on this famous family hatch make it one of the best deals out there at the moment

A perennial favourite, you can barely turn a corner in the UK without seeing a VW Golf. But strong finance deposit contributions on this famous family hatch make it one of the best deals out there at the moment

While Insider Car Deals has tracked VW dealer discounts being pulled back on petrol and diesel models throughout January (down by up to 20 per cent), Volkswagen at a manufacturer level is making up for that with a £4,250 deposit contribution on Golf petrol variants purchased using a VW Solutions PCP deal.

This means buyers can save more than 21 per cent on the 1.5 TSI Life variant on finance. Across the Golf petrol range monthly payments start from £263 on VW’s PCP deal.

15. Honda e:NY1 – 22% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: e:NY1 150kW Elegance 69kWh 5dr Auto

Retail price: £40,660

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*:  £31,910 (£8,750 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £312

The first of many EVs to make the list of the most discounted new cars is Honda’s e:NY1 SUV. The Japanese brand

Honda’s oddly named e:NY1 has a £3,750 cash discount via Honda’s ECG-matching saving.

Although dealers won’t currently add to this from their own trading margin, Honda further demonstrate how keen they are to boost sales of this car with a £5,000 PCP deposit contribution linked to an interest-free PCP deal. That means you can buy an e:NY1 from £312 per month using this finance offer.

14. Audi A5 – 22.9% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: A5 2.0 TFSI 299 e Quattro Sport 4dr S Tronic

Retail price: £51,450

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*:  £39,912 (£11,538 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £372

Audi is currently running a sales event with additional savings on top of existing discounts. It means - along with PCP finance contributions - you can save a whopping £11,538 off the £41,450 retail price of a petrol A5 saloon

Audi is currently running a sales event with additional savings on top of existing discounts. It means – along with PCP finance contributions – you can save a whopping £11,538 off the £41,450 retail price of a petrol A5 saloon

Audi is keen to keep ahead of prestige rivals and are running a special sales event with added savings on top of existing discounts and this sees Audi place four times in this January Sales list.

For the A5 executive saloon in the Quattro Sport spec, automatic gearbox and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a combination of dealer discounts, manufacturer incentives and PCP finance deposit contributions can amount to a saving of 22.3 per cent, which amounts to a whopping £11,538 off the £41,450 retail price.

13. Nissan Juke – 23.3% discount

Fuel type: Hybrid

Trim: Juke 1.6 Hybrid N-Connecta 5dr Auto

Retail price: £29,795

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £22,968 (£6,827 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £208

What’s propelled the Nissan Juke towards the top of the UK sales charts in the last few years is a combination of quirky looks, clean engines and big dealer discounts. Right now, you can save up to £6,800 on a hybrid example

The Nissan Juke’s styling is a classic love-it-or-hate-it affair, but there’s no mistaking it on the road. It’s also a regular in the UK’s top 10 best-selling cars, helped in no small part by sizeable dealer discounts and Nissan deposit contributions of up to £3,750 on its PCP deal.

Nissan knows that to keep a car popular it needs to be regularly seen on Britain’s roads, and with total savings of up to 23.3 per cent available on the 1.6 Hybrid N-Connecta, that’s exactly what’s likely to happen.

12. BYD Atto 3 – 23.4% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: Atto 3 150kW Comfort 60kWh 5dr Auto

Retail price: £37,730

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £29,069 (£8,661 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £266

Suggestions that Chinese car brands are offering huge discounts to bolster their sales in the UK are far of the mark, with BYD the only manufacturer from the East Asian nation to feature in our list. It is offering bid savings on the electric Atto 3 at the moment

BYD continue to make headlines as one of the most prominent, and successful Chinese car market entrants in 2025 and although they started off the New Year by reducing discounts across much of their range, they changed course mid-January with typically achievable savings improving significantly as a result.

The Atto 3 EV has the best deals of all, with a 23.5 per cent – or £8,659 – saving on the Comfort specification, with the monthly PCP for the Atto 3 range starting at £265.

11. Audi Q2 – 23.7% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Audi’s Q2 is one of the plushest compact crossover on the market. And with sturdy dealer discounts and finance deposit contributions, the monthly PCP payments on the Q2 30 TFSI Sport petrol are just £4 more than a Ford Puma

With dealer discounts included, Audi Q2 petrol models start from £258 monthly on PCP compared to £254 for one of its key competitors, the Ford Puma.

Some buyers might not realise they can get the more prestige Audi badge for this type of car for just £4 extra a month.

10. Seat Leon – 24.6% discount

Fuel type: Petrol

Trim: Leon 1.5 TSI 115 SE 5dr [Driver Assistance Pack]

Retail price: £25,655

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £19,457 (£6,198 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £224

Seat dealers can run more disciplined sales processes, which usually stops discounts spiralling out of control. There is more emphasis on generous PCP deposit contributions. On top of dealer discounts, you can get an entry-spec petrol for less than £20k

Seat dealers can run more disciplined sales processes, which usually stops discounts spiralling out of control. There is more emphasis on generous PCP deposit contributions. On top of dealer discounts, you can get an entry-spec petrol for less than £20k

Seat’s Leon has typically sat slightly awkwardly in the market; it isn’t quite semi-premium enough to take on the VW Golf or Honda Civic directly, but nor is it a bargain-basement option, and it lacks enough of the obvious cool factor some younger buyers look for.

As part of the VW Group, Seat dealers can run more disciplined sales processes, which usually stops discounts spiralling out of control. There is more emphasis on generous PCP deposit contributions – in this case up to £4,500 – producing monthly payments from £224 a month. With a total saving of more than 24 per cent on the 1.5 TSI SE, it’s a deal that’s hard to ignore.

9. Volkswagen ID.3 – 27% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: ID.3 125kW Essential Pure 52kWh 5dr Auto

Retail price: £30,860

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £22,764 (£8,096 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £221

The ID.3 is VW's all-electric alternative to the Golf. Discounting has seesawed in recent years but there are good deals to be had in dealers in late January, Insider Car Deals says

The ID.3 is VW’s all-electric alternative to the Golf. Discounting has seesawed in recent years but there are good deals to be had in dealers in late January, Insider Car Deals says

Average discounts on the Volkswagen ID.3 have seesawed in recent years as VW has tried to hold onto a more premium positioning and build a must-have aura around its electric hatchback.

That’s been tested as EV demand has proved patchier beyond early adopters, and while the ID.3 is a strong contender, it’s far from the sales success of its combustion-engine sibling, the evergreen Golf.

Dealer discounts are stronger than on VW’s petrol models, and when combined with a £1,500 government grant on selected versions and a £4,500 PCP finance deposit contribution from VW, they help bring the ID.3 onto the road on Volkswagen’s PCP from £221 a month.

8. Audi A3 – 27.1% discount

Fuel type: Hybrid

Trim: A3 1.5 TFSIe 204 Sport 5dr S Tronic

Retail price: £39,290

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £28,895 (£10,395 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £264

UK drivers acquiring their cars using PCP finance - which accounts for more than 8 in 10 buyers in Britain - can get a plug-in hybrid Audi A3 with a saving of more than £10k on the RRP

UK drivers acquiring their cars using PCP finance – which accounts for more than 8 in 10 buyers in Britain – can get a plug-in hybrid Audi A3 with a saving of more than £10k on the RRP

There’s plenty of attention is being paid by manufacturers to shift an increasing number of hybrid cars.

Most notable is Audi again with a £10,395 saving on the A3 Sport PHEV version and with monthly PCP payments available from £264 across the A3 PHEV range.

7. Audi Q4 E-Tron – 27.5% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: Q4 E-Tron Estate 150kW 40 63kWh Sport 5dr Auto [Leather]

Retail price: £46,610

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £34,023 (£12,587 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £335

A combination of strong manufacturer discounting and deposit contributions, the Audi Q3 E-Tron electric SUV can be snapped up for £12,500 less than its retail price

A combination of strong manufacturer discounting and deposit contributions, the Audi Q3 E-Tron electric SUV can be snapped up for £12,500 less than its retail price

On Audi’s Q4 E-Tron EVs, Insider Car Deals has identified generous dealer discounts on top of Audi’s own deals and PCP deposit contributions.

On top of the manufacturer’s cash incentives and with PCP monthly payments starting from £335, buyers can get Audi’s premium electric SUV for £13 a month less than a Ford Explorer.

6. Cupra Born – 27.6% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: Born 169kW e-Boost V1 59kWh 5dr Auto

Retail price: £35,690

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £25,854 (£9,836 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £267

Dealer discounts on the Cupra Born are somewhat minimal. However, a £1,500 government grant on selected versions and PCP finance deposit contributions of up to £7,000 per car means you can save almost £10k on the list price

Dealer discounts on the Cupra Born are somewhat minimal. However, a £1,500 government grant on selected versions and PCP finance deposit contributions of up to £7,000 per car means you can save almost £10k on the list price

The Cupra Born stands out as one of the strongest EV deals around, with total savings of 27.6 per cent or £9,836 available on the 169kW e-Boost V1 59kWh version.

Cupra dealers have traditionally defended their margins more fiercely than many rivals, convinced the brand is genuinely cool, sporty and desirable. While outright dealer discounts remain more controlled, overall savings are boosted by a £1,500 government EV grant on selected versions and PCP finance deposit contributions of up to £7,000 per car. By concentrating the biggest savings within its PCP offers, Cupra avoids overtly devaluing the Born while still delivering a deal that’s hard to ignore.

5. Dacia Spring – 29.4% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: Spring 27kWh Expression 45 33kW 5dr Auto

Retail price: £14,995

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £10,818 (£4,177 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £113

The Dacia Spring is already the nation's cheapest new EV. But combined savings from the Government's ECG and a modest dealer discount means you can grab one for under £11k

The Dacia Spring is already the nation’s cheapest new EV. But combined savings from the Government’s ECG and a modest dealer discount means you can grab one for under £11k

The Dacia Spring is the nation’s cheapest electric car. And the biggest discount available is on the entry version with the 27kWh battery.

While this offers a maximum range of up to just 140 miles, that’s still more than adequate for urban driving and school runs.

It comes with the massive benefit of the Government’s £3,750 ECG, and a modest additional dealer discount on top.

This means you can pick up the Expression version for under £11,000 and pay just £113 per month on PCP.

4. Peugeot e-208 – 29.8% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: e-28 50kWh 136 Allure

Retail price: £30,150

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £21,477 (£8,673 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £257

Peugeot has very much jumped on the January sales bandwagon and introduced manufacturer level discounts across showrooms via big deposit contributions and other savings. This means a new e-208 EV can be snapped up for almost 30% below retail price

Peugeot has very much jumped on the January sales bandwagon and introduced manufacturer level discounts across showrooms via big deposit contributions and other savings. This means a new e-208 EV can be snapped up for almost 30% below retail price

The New Year has seen discounts significantly increase on Peugeot models, with the manufacturer offering big deposit contributions and customer savings.

Combined with the achievable discounts on the e-208 electric supermini identified by Insider Car Deals, this means total discounts of up to 29.8 per cent – or £8,673 – with monthly PCP payments across the e-208 range from £257 per month.

3. Peugeot 2008 – 31.5% discount

Fuel type: Hybrid

Trim: 2008 1.2 Hybrid 145 Allure 5dr e-DSC6

Retail price: £32,870

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £22,987 (£9,883 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £220

Another heavily discounted Peugeot model is the 2008 hybrid crossover. A combo of finance deposit contributions, manufacturer offers and dealer discounts knocks almost £10k off the RRP

Peugeot’s substantial deals are limited to its EVs, as the 2008 hybrid crossover proves.

With a combination of finance deposit contributions, manufacturer offers and dealer discounts, customers can get almost £10,000 off the RRP of this popular small family car. Across the hybrid 2008 range, monthly PCP payments start from £220.

2. Vauxhall Corsa Electric – 35.8% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: Corsa Electric 50kWh 100kW Ultimate Auto

Retail price: £33,050

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £21,560 (£11,490 saving)

Vauxhall has long been known for offering some of the biggest discounts in showrooms, and that appears the case at the moment, with big savings on the Corsa Electric

Vauxhall salesmen and women are known to offer some of the best discounts across showrooms, and this appears to be the case at the end of January, based on Insider Car Deals insight and mystery shopping.

While Vauxhall Corsa Electric remains one of the few supermini-sized electric cars on sale in Britain, customers looking at the Ultimate trim with the 50kWh battery can negotiate a discount of £11,490. That’s a monumental 35.8% off the RRP.

1. Vauxhall Mokka Electric – 36.7% discount

Fuel type: Electric

Trim: Mokka Electric 115kW Ultimate 54kWh 5dr Auto

Retail price: £38,105

Achievable price (Insider Car Deals)*: £24,487 (£13,618 saving)

PCP monthly payments**: £294

At the time of publishing this story (29 January 2026), the Vauxhall Mokka Electric is the most heavily discounted new car in UK showrooms with buyers able to get one with over a third off the RRP, says Insider Car Deals

At the time of publishing this story (29 January 2026), the Vauxhall Mokka Electric is the most heavily discounted new car in UK showrooms with buyers able to get one with over a third off the RRP, says Insider Car Deals

The biggest January sales deal of all is on an electric Vauxhall – which is probably not all that surprising given the level of discounting on EVs and the brand’s reputation for slashing prices in showrooms.

The Mokka Electric – a compact family crossover – is the most discounted car of the moment. It’s a relatively popular electric option, possibly because dealers are willing to offer customers savings of more than a third on some trims. The best deal is on the Ultimate spec with a 54kWh battery, with contributions from the dealer and manufacturer amounting to £13,618 off the £38,105 retail price.

**PCP monthly payments relates to each respective model range and not just the specified trim. All PCP monthly payments shown are illustrative only and do not constitute an offer or financial advice. Figures are based on manufacturers’ published PCP terms and typically assume a 4-year term, 8,000–10,000 miles per year, a 15% customer deposit, and any applicable manufacturer finance contribution.
