Bette Midler, 78, deleted her X account after Donald Trump won the US election against Kamala Harris – previously claiming she would “drink drain cleaner” if he was voted back in.

Midler is among several liberal celebrities dismayed by Trump’s landslide victory after devoting her time and energy to the Democrats and publicly backing Harris.

Prior to Trump’s win, Midler shared a photo of a bottle of champagne with a sticky note placed on it that read “If Kamala wins”, and a bottle of Drano – a brand of drain cleaner – with a note that read” “If Trump wins.”

At the time of posting the image, the post was well received by her fans, receiving upwards of 57K likes and 7K reposts.

However, after it was revealed that Trump became the President-elect, she issued a lengthy statement on X, branding his mind as “a virtual vacuum”.

She passionately wrote: “When a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand.

So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or be lost… All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre.

“The man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum… The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men.”

She finished off her statement by firing back at Trump’s voters and added: “As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal.

“On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Many X users were overjoyed to see that the Beaches star was no longer part of the platform, with one user celebrating: “Bette Midler is off X… America is Greater on day one!

“Bette Midler deleted her X account. Finally,” someone else noted before a third penned: “Bette Midler has closed down her X account in protest. TAXI!”

A fourth expressed: “Hey Bette Midler, I know you can’t see this because you deleted your X account, but I just wanted to say Yes, it is a glorious morning.”

“Bette Midler deleted her account. There’s 1 down. Flawless. Victory,” another simply stated. (sic)

This isn’t the first instance Midler has voiced her dislike for Trump, and she previously slammed the former The Apprentice star for a viral moment of him simulating oral sex on a microphone stand.

She penned to her followers on X at the time: “I saw Trump simulating a b*** j** on his microphone yesterday! UGH! Looks like somebody’s getting ready to try to win the popular vote…in prison!” (sic)

Midler is amongst the many who have voiced their concern and disappointment of Trump’s win such as Jimmy Kimmel, Ariana Grande, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Cardi B and others.

Kimmel broke down in tears during his recent chat show episode and claimed that the choice for US President came down to a prosecutor and a criminal, “and we chose the criminal”.

He stated: “Let’s be honest. It was a terrible night last night, it was a terrible night for women, for children.

“For hundreds and thousands of hardworking immigrants who make this country go…” he continued, prompting the star to get choked up. “It doesn’t mean we give up, but it also doesn’t mean we storm the Capitol because we don’t like the result.”
