Staycations are a great opportunity to explore everything the country has to offer.

An expert has told GB News the best spots if you are looking for beaches, walks or an affordable getaway.

Founder and CEO of RedAwning.com Tim Choate listed locations in England and Scotland as the best ones to visit.

He described the spots as “some of the UK’s most captivating yet underrated staycation destinations”.

The expert recommended the Isle of Harris

Best walks – Northumberland

Those looking for a stunning walk in the countryside should head to the north of England, according to the expert.

Tim said: “The Northumberland Coast provides a combination of tranquil routes and breathtaking scenery for those looking for great hikes.

“Northumberland has wide beaches and old castles along its coastline walks, in contrast to the sometimes congested Lake District.”

Best beaches – Isle of Harris

The UK has no shortage of beaches, and the south is often praised for its beautiful coastlines. However, the expert told Britons not to forget Scotland when planning a beach break – though the weather may not always be guaranteed.

He continued: “While many people travel to well-known locations like Cornwall, Scotland’s Isle of Harris is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK, including Luskentyre Sands.

“Without the lengthy travel, the Isle of Harris is evocative of the white dunes and turquoise waters of the Caribbean.”

Sheffield Cathedral was recommended for an affordable break

Most affordable – Sheffield

Holidaymakers seeking value for money on their next break should look at Yorkshire, Tim explained.

He said: “The South Yorkshire city of Sheffield provides a surprising blend of urban culture and accessibility to the Peak District National Park for tourists on a tight budget.

“Rich in outdoor sports, music and art, it’s less costly than places like Edinburgh or London.”
