Strictly Come Dancing’s Pete Wicks and his professional dance partner Jowita Przystał shared a ‘goodbye’ post on Monday after their iconic George Of The Jungle routine.

Over the weekend, for the hit BBC One dancing show’s Movie Week theme, Pete, 36, and Jowita, 30, performed a samba to the George Of The Jungle theme.

During their routine on Saturday night, Pete suffered a dance blunder that nearly sent pro partner Jowita flying – but she thankfully managed a last-minute save.

Most judges praised their number, however, the blunder didn’t slip past eagle-eyed Craig Revel Horwood who pointed out: “There was the trip hazard, which you created”, calling some moves “uncoordinated at times”. The duo scored 26 points for the dance.

Taking to social media following the weekend, the duo shared a hilarious poignant post to mark the routine. Jowita posted a picture of herself and Pete, writing: “Tonight we’re saying goodbye to George and Ursula and hello again to dance shoes!” followed by a laughing emoji.

Meanwhile, Pete went one step further as he shared a black-and-white video of the duo rehearsing the routine with the caption: “In loving memory… RIP George. Just in case you wanted to see what it would have looked like if I hadn’t kicked poor @jowitaprzystal in the knees and nearly sent her face planting the floor” with a heart emoji.

Responding to the posts one person said: “Might be my favourite SCD dance of all time! Absolutely brilliant”, a different account put: “I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as much! Those hips were really hipping” while another fan added: “I love you two. I love the fact that you take the mickey out of yourself Pete and you are becoming a dancer.. good for you!”

It comes as Pete admitted over the weekend while reflecting on his George Of The Jungle routine: “I absolutely hate the film, but I absolutely love the samba. George loves the samba.”

His dance partner Jowita praised his commitment, saying: “Any idea I picture you go with it. You never say no and you always want to be fully in. You’re my number one George. Better than the movie.”

Elsewhere on the show over the weekend, Strictly Come Dancing revealed its second elimination of the series on Sunday night after a tense dance-off.

During the results episode, Toyah Willcox and Neil Jones left the hit BBC One dance competition after finding themselves in the bottom two with Paul Merson and Karen Hauer.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday, October 12 at 6:20pm
