Nick Knowles told fans he was addressing the ‘elephant in the room’ as he shared a message on social media during his week of training for his next Strictly Come Dancing performance.

The DIY SOS star’s future in the BBC One dance contest was recently left hanging in the balance after he suffered an injury the day after performing alongside professional dance partner Luba Mushtuk for the first time live on the show.

He underwent various scans and assessments on his shoulder before it was agreed that he was fit to perform. With only 16 hours training, Nick managed to deliver a respectable American Smooth Foxtrot to Blur’s Park Life alongside Luba.

Despite viewers watching him in visible pain, Nick’s work paid off and the 62-year-old later made it through to week three of Strictly 2024, which is Movie Week, and will take place this Saturday (October 5).

He and Luba are set to perform a Charleston to Rain On The Roof from the film Paddington 2. However, Nick took to social media after he mentioned the song was from the hit film on the Strictly spin-off show, It Takes Two.

In the video, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, the TV star said: “I thought I’d address the small elephant in the room when I appeared on It Takes Two I said that the song we’re dancing to is from Paddington 2.

“Of course the musical theatre people amongst you will know that song is originally from Follies by Stephen Sondheim. Now the reason I said it was from Paddington 2 is because this is Movie Week in Strictly. As such, I was asked what movie are you performing. So I was saying this particular track is at the end of Paddington 2.”

But Nick’s followers were seemingly baffled as to why he had to address the song’s history as they offered him support.

Meanwhile, Nick has revealed the physical difference training for Strictly has already had on his body. He’s told how he’s lost an incredible 13.5kgs (2st 1lbs) since training began in early August. He said during a recent appearance on BBC’s Morning Live: “About eight weeks ago before I started this process, I looked like I’d eaten a dancer, I was that huge.

“I’ve lost 13.5kgs in the process here so I am becoming more dancer-shaped and that is my plan – to move more like a cat, a dancer than bear or an elephant which I began as. I’m glad I’m doing this (interview) because it is giving me a few minutes’ break from training.”
