Chris McCausland has said he’s ‘mortified’ after his secret comment to Dianne Buswell was revealed to not be so secret after all after it was broadcast to the nation.

The pair reduced Strictly Come Dancing viewers to tears as comedian Chris swapped his comedy comforts for a moving waltz alongside professional dance partner Dianne.

Chris, who is Strictly’s first blind contestant, and Dianne performed their routine to the Liverpool anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone, in a nod to Chris’ beloved home city and football club, with the iconic track sung on the night by fellow Liverpudlian Tommy Blaize.

But it was just as Chris’ performance came to an end that their hidden mics picked up a sweet moment between him and Dianne in which he asked: “Did I do okay?” to which it sound like she said: “You did so good,” before giving him more gushing words of praise and encouragement as they made their way over to host Tess Daly for their comments, with Chris emotionally collapsing into her shoulder.

The moment quickly saw Strictly viewers rushing to social media tot tell Chris he had done ‘more than okay’ and that he has ‘no idea’ how good he really is.

Now, Chris has addressed the moment himself, and says he’s ‘mortified’. In their latest video series ‘CHRIS DIAnneRIES’ on Tuesday evening (October 22), Dianne said: “This is our thank you,” as Chris interjected: “For the votes.” Dianne continued: “Thank you to everyone us and it’s just so many kind things that people have said.”

Chris commented: “It went very well, I was very happy with it,” to which Dianne echoed: “I was very happy with it…” But as Chris suggested his nerves had subsided as the weeks have gone by, Dianne did tell him: “You went a bit of a grey colour again,” to which he asked: “Why did I do that, Di? Because of the pressure!”

“I didn’t want to do a rubbish dance to a song that means so much to a lot of us. I was delighted with how it went,” the 47-year-old added. It was then that Dianne brought up Chris’ comments. “We went out there, we did a beautiful waltz and Chris, what did you say to the end?” Dianne asked to which her dance partner replied: “I don’t want to talk about it!”

Dianne asked him again to which he refused before she added: “Come on. The whole nation has heard you say it now!” As he started to giggle, Chris said: “I didn’t realise the microphones would pick up what I was saying to you. I said, ‘Did I do good, Di?’ I didn’t know that would get picked up by the microphones and I was so embarrassed when I heard that back.”

He added while mocking himself: “I was mortified. ‘Did I do good, Mummy? Did I draw a good picture’.” But Dianne said: “It was very sweet Chris!”
