Strictly Come Dancing fans found themselves doing a double take as they thought they spotted Phillip Schofield during the show’s Halloween special.

The annual spooky festivities arrived early on Saturday night (October 26) as the hit BBC One dance contest went all out for the second of its five specials this year.

Hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman swerved donning fancy dress, instead wearing matching all-black ensembles. But they didn’t need to go too crazy, as the judges certainly made up for it.

Strictly viewers were left screaming at Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke’s incredible joint effort as the twins from The Shining while Motsi Mabuse came dressed as classic Disney villain Cruella de Vill – and head judge Shirley Ballas appeared as Hocus Pocus’ Winifred Sanderson.

Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell kicked things off with a lively samba to Stayin’ Alive by The Bee Gees. Dressed in a sparkly suit and frazzled wig, the stand-up grooved along the floor in between gravestones with his partner Dianne Buswell, Chris managed to pick up a score of 26 out of a possible 40.

Later, riding high from their near-perfect scores last weekend for their Carnival-inspired couple’s choice routine, Olympian Montell Douglas and her dance partner Johannes Radebe cast a spell on the judges with their fiery cha cha to Love Potion No. 9 by The Clovers.

The pair picked up a score of 35, the highest for the dance of the series, with their routine which featured a lot of quick footwork and spins.

Craig Revel Horwood revealed their love potion worked on him as he said he “love, love, loved it”. Shirley Ballas praised the dance as “breathtaking”, while Anton Du Beke hailed Montell’s “wonderful characterisation” but suggested she work on her leg speed.

But it was Johannes wig that seemingly caused Strictly viewers to do a double take as some said it reminded them of former This Morning star Phillip.

@Ruthiexx asked: “Why does Johannes have Phillip Schofields hair for this Halloween special? #Strictly.” @KDCunliffe posted: “There was a split second when I thought Phillip Schofield was back. #strictly #strictlycomedancing #bbcstrictly #johannes #montell.” @Daisyloomoo added: “Johannes looks like Schofield #strictly.”
