BBC Great British Sewing Bee viewers fume as ‘predictable’ winner crowned after intense final

Great British Sewing Bee fans saw Luke be crowned the winner of the latest series, but some were left disappointed with the “predictable” win and thought others were more deserving.

During tonight’s final, the three remaining sewers – Pascha, Ailsa and Luke – began by making opera gloves, a test of skill and precision sewing as they handled delicate fabrics.

In the Transformation Challenge, the finalists attempted to turn party paraphernalia into a complete party outfit before they faced their final Made to Measure challenge in which they had to create a full outfit by draping fabric onto their models.

All three of the designers left the judges blown away with their techniques and imaginative designs, especially in the Made to Measure challenge.

However, after much deliberation, judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young crowned Luke as the winner, leaving them to break down in tears and jokingly ask: “Are you sure?”

Speaking about their win, Luke added: “Honestly this just doesn’t feel real. Never did I think I would get close to the final let alone this, this is just wild.

Luke’s Made to Measure piece left the judges stunned

“It doesn’t make sense. I was expecting a hug from Patrick and I would have been fine but to have the campest trophy ever, I am going to remember this forever.

“I am so proud of myself, I don’t tend to say that a lot but I am really proud of myself.”

Young commented on the win: “I am really happy that Luke won, they were so creative and imaginative and got better and better and better.”

Grant added: ” Every single one of Luke’s Made to Measure has been full of ambition, today we saw skill, drama and an absolute flare for making clothes that really catch the eye and they are an amazing winner.”

Luke was left stunned when they were announced as the winner

Proud of their friend, Pascha exclaimed: “Luke is such a deserving winner. My sewing bee experience has been full of beautiful talented people but wow, it has just been incredible.”

Ailsa added: “I am more than happy to lose to Luke, I am genuinely just so happy.”

However, some viewers at home were less than impressed with the judge’s choice, as one X user commented: “Pascha has been amazing for weeks – it’s such a shame that her creations weren’t at the same level in the final.”

“Sad my favourite didn’t win, but her dress was lovely,” another added before a third said: “I think Luke was a deserved winner, although I didn’t feel his outfit looked exactly like the design in the drawing. Esp the bottom.”

Pascha and Ailsa were happy for their co-star

Someone else penned: “Sad. Pascha was the more worthy winner based on the whole series. Well done Luke though. Your outfit tonight was phenomenal.”

“The wrong winner was chosen in my opinion! Sad Pascha didn’t win but well done to Luke for growing in confidence,” a fifth wrote before another replied: “Predictable winner of course, good old BBC, been disappointing this time.”

Not all viewers were unimpressed with the decision, as one proud viewer praised: “There was only one winner tonight. His made-to-measure was a masterpiece & the napkin dress was inspired!”
