Whilst many Glastonbury fans arrived in their thousands, anticipating headliners Dua Lipa, Coldplay, Shania Twain and SZA, listeners of BBC Radio 2 were left annoyed at the “overflow” of coverage.

Festivalgoers waited months for the 2024 line-up – the longest time in 17 years – with the event selling out within an hour after tickets went on sale in November.

It didn’t take long for fans to slam the line-up with many claiming it was the “worst ever” and some even contemplated whether to resell their ticket and leave the festival for this year.

Now, those who haven’t got tickets for the five-day spectacular have kicked off and claimed the festival “died years ago” after feeling like BBC Radio 2 has overdone the coverage.

Taking to their X accounts, one penned: “@BBCRadio2 Radio 2 is turning into the overflow channel for Radio 1. If l wanted to listen to Glastonbury l would have gone.

“Too many sounds of the 90s, 90s alternative, 90s dance. OMG 90S OVERKILL. Let’s have a bit more Jazz, etc.”

“Glastonbury died years ago,” another added before a third said: “Glastonbury this, Glastonbury that, sick to death of it already.”

Someone else penned: “The coverage of Glasto is getting a bit much now… it’s overkill. We get it, the festival is happening, no need to continuously remind those who didn’t want to go.”

“Turned the radio off because of the excessive Glasto coverage…” another noted before a sixth raged: “Had enough now… it’s been two days and I am already fed up with Glastonbury.. bring on Sunday night when it’s over.” (sic)

The constant backlash comes after singer Caity Baser told those who complained over the line-up not to bother coming and said: “Don’t go then. Why do you care? I have never looked at a line-up for a festival and gone ‘Oh that s**t’.

“I don’t care [who is playing] like I’m going to go and enjoy. Also, Sza, what? She’s been my number-one listened-to artist since I was like 12. I love her so much! And Coldplay? What do you mean? It’s Shania Twain. What more do you want?” she told the Metro.

“People need to chill out and I guarantee you when they’re there they’ll go ‘aw that was sick’. What’s all the fuss about?”

Singer and Glastonbury act Paloma Faith also had some words to say about the festival – which has been going since 1970 – and claimed it will “go back to white men again” in a brutal verdict of the female-led line-up.

Due to previous backlash over the lack of diversity in the line-up, Dua Lipa – whose rehearsal set was invaded by a TikTok star – SZA and Shania Twain are taking the “Legend” slot.

“What tends to happen is they’ll diversify and include non-white races and women again, and everyone says, ‘Isn’t it great? We’re progressing’ – and then it goes back to white men again for years.

“I’ll believe it when I see it,” she told Radio Times.
