BBC 5 Live presenter Mark Chapman broke down in tears during the beginning of his radio show ahead of the England vs Netherlands match to pay tribute to his friend and colleague John Hunt whose family were recently murdered.

Carol, 61, Louise, 25, and Hannah, 28, were found seriously injured at their detached home and sadly died despite the efforts of paramedics.

It was recently reported that the triple murder suspect has been caught in a North London cemetery after police launched a massive manhunt, being bundled into the back of an ambulance this afternoon.

Clifford was believed to have been known to the victims, Hertfordshire Police has claimed.

Hunt raised the alarm when he returned home and found his family, leaving the BBC to release a statement which read: “The news today about John Hunt’s family is utterly devastating.

“Our thoughts are with John and his family at this incredibly difficult time and we will provide him with all the support we can.”

The police urged the public to not approach Clifford if he was seen, believing he could have been carrying a crossbow and possibly other weapons.

Tributes for the presenter’s loss came flooding in and left those who know Hunt and his family speechless.

Ahead of the highly anticipated Euro 2024 semi-final match, Chapman kicked off his show by paying an emotional and teary tribute.

Unable to keep composure, Chapman said: “Good evening from Germany, we have a football match to bring you tonight and we will do and we will start our build-up to it shortly.

“But this has been a heartbreaking day, John Hunt is our colleague and our friend, not just here at the current 5 Live Sport team but all of those who worked here with him over the past 20 years and also to all of you who have enjoyed his superb commentaries.

“So on behalf of everybody connected to 5 Live Sport, our love, thoughts and support are with John and his family.”

Chapman wasn’t the only one to reach out to Hunt on social media, as Racing TV penned X: “Everyone at Racing TV is shocked and saddened by the tragic deaths in Hertfordshire. Our condolences to John Hunt, his family and friends, at this dreadful time.”

At The Races added: “Everyone at Sky Sports Racing and At The Races is deeply saddened by the tragic deaths in Hertfordshire and our thoughts are with our colleague John Hunt, his family and friends at this awful time.”

Sky Sports Racing expressed: “Everyone at Sky Sports Racing is deeply saddened by the tragic deaths in Hertfordshire and our thoughts are with our colleague John Hunt, his family and friends at this awful time.”

“This is absolutely incomprehensible,” Emma Kenny penned before Irish Racing said: “We’re deeply saddened by the tragic events in Hertfordshire, UK. Our heartfelt thoughts are with John Hunt, his family, and friends during this incredibly difficult time.” (sic)
