Attendance Allowance recipients could be entitled to discounted tariffs on their broadband and mobile phone bills.

Claimants of this payment could be able to access discounts through social tariffs depending on their broadband provider.

Broadband customers have been forced to deal with inflation-hiked prices UNSPLASH

Here is a breakdown of the broadband providers which are offering discounts to those on Attendance Allowance, as well as the areas in the UK they operate in:

  • Connect Fibre Basic Essentials – £20 a month – England (Cambridgeshire, Essex, Nottinghamshire, York and Derbyshire)
  • Grayshott Gigabit Connect – £19 a month – England
  • Hey! Broadband Everyday Fibre -£16 a month – England (South East England)
  • Hyperoptic Fair Fibre 50 – £15 a month – England, Scotland and Wales
  • Hyperoptic Fair Fibre 150 – £20 a month – England, Scotland and Wales
  • KKOM Full Fibre Flex – £14.99 a month – England (Hull)
  • Lightning Fibre Social Tariff – £15 a month – England (South Sussex and Kent)
  • Lothian & England – £19.99 a month – Scotland (Lothian)
  • Quickline Social Tariff – £16.50 a month – England (Yorkshire and Lincolnshire).

What is Attendance Allowance?

Those of state pension age, which is currently 66, who have a long-term disability or health condition could get this support.

It was created to help pay for the extra costs that arise from being an older person with a condition or disability.

Attendance Allowance claimants could get additional Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or a Council Tax Reduction.

People claiming this benefit do not need to have someone caring for them in order to receive payments.

Universal Credit claimants are commonly known to be in receipt of social tariffs

How much is Attendance Allowance?

The benefit payment is paid at two different rates and it depends on the level of care someone gets for their disability.

These are weekly rates of £68.10 or £101.75 a week for assistance if someone is on the state pension and is either physically or mentally disabled.

Attendance Allowance’s lower rate is for individuals who need “frequent help or constant supervision” during the day or supervision at night, according to the Government’s website.

In comparison, the higher rate is for people who need help or supervision throughout the day and night, or a medical professional has said they might have 12 months or less to live.
