Nick Cushing is a managerial target for Arsenal Women but the club face an uphill battle to lure the 39-year-old from New York City.

Cushing, who has been with the American club since 2020, is one of a number of candidates the Gunners are considering in what is an on-going process to replace former head coach Jonas Eidevall.

But Mail Sport understands that Cushing is happy and committed to his job in New York and fully focussed on their upcoming play-off journey.

It is understood there has been no direct contact between Arsenal and Cushing and, at this stage, it is likely he would reject any advances.

Cushing was previously manager of Manchester City Women between 2013 and 2020.

Arsenal are considering candidates as part of an ongoing process to replace Jonas Eidevall

Cushing led Manchester City Women between 2013 and 2020, before moving to New York

He won four trophies before leaving to become assistant head coach of New York City.

Cushing became interim manager in June 2022 before being given the job on a permanent basis later that year.

Arsenal have placed Renee Slegers in interim charge while they conduct a thorough search for a new manager.

Slegers is highly respected and experienced and the club are comfortable keeping her in charge rather than appointing a convenient candidate.

Eidevall resigned as Arsenal head coach earlier this month following a disappointing start to the season.
