An American Airlines passenger in first class has been left furious after spending the entire flight with the seat in front reclined so far back that it was practically in ‘his lap.’

The traveler, who goes by the username @AV_Cova, took to X, formerly Twitter, to share his outrage after he flew from Dallas, Texas, to Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Sunday – and was left with very little leg room.

He explained that he forked over hundreds of dollars to upgrade his ticket on the 2.5-hour flight and expected to be comfortable – but had the opposite experience.

The unnamed man said the chair directly in front of his was ‘broken,’ so it wasn’t able to stay in the normal position.

Instead, it leaned so far back that it pressed against his knees for the duration of the flight, making it so he ‘couldn’t use his tray table’ and leaving him with so little room he couldn’t even stand up.

‘Dude is in my lap,’ the traveler captioned a shot that showed the seat in front of his in the reclined position. ‘You continue to be awful, @AmericanAir.’

‘I can’t use my tray table, and no chance of getting up. I’m in [seat] 3C, so 2C is clearly broken,’ he added in a second post.

‘Get it fixed before someone else wastes a fortune on first class and gets f**ked @AmericanAir.’

DailyMail.com has reached out to American Airlines for comment.

His post quickly went viral, and it even caught the airline’s attention, who apologized for the mishap.

‘Keeping our planes in top-notch shape is always the goal. We’re sorry for this inconvenience and appreciate you bringing this to our attention,’ the company wrote.

‘We’ll get this right over to the maintenance folks for review. Our apologies again.’

‘Maintenance isn’t gonna review the money I wasted…’ the man responded, to which American replied, ‘We’re sorry to hear of any disappointment. We can only offer our apologies for the inconvenience.’

Despite their apology, his predicament led to many people across the web bashing the airline.

‘Thieves. Cheats,’ one person replied while tagging the airline.

‘I think this is ridiculous,’ someone else said.

‘Unacceptable for the largest airline in the world,’ another added.

‘Look at how American Airlines treats a first class passenger paying $500 extra for a first class seat by only offering ‘apologies’ for the outrageous ‘inconvenience,” a fourth tweet read.

‘No wonder none of us will ever fly American Airlines again. We are likewise ‘disappointed.”

The man, who asked to keep his name private, told Fox News that the airline ‘did not offer him a perk or refund,’ despite him forking over $500 to upgrade to first class.

‘No matter how I positioned myself, the seat was still against my knees,’ he raged.

‘The gentleman in the seat in front of me was very sympathetic, but he was unable to get the seat to lock forward, as it was inoperable.’
