Amanda Abbington has shown her support for Strictly’s Angela Scanlon after the presenter was forced to leave the competition on Sunday evening.

Scanlon took on Layton Williams in the dreaded dance-off as both competed for a spot in the quarter-final but three out of the four judges opted to save the 29-year-old actor.

Shirley Ballas was the only judge to admit she’d have saved Williams, sparking feud rumours with the Strictly star.

Williams admitted he was “disappointed” to have landed in the dance-off – with some viewers taking issue with his response to the news – but he still managed to do enough to secure a quarter-final spot.

Scanlon admitted to Tess Daly and BBC viewers she was “gutted” to be leaving the competition as she paid tribute to partner Carlos Gu as well as her friends, family, and co-stars.

While a number of Strictly fans at home were divided by the result, it seems Abbington was clearly disappointed to see her former fellow Strictly competitor bow out of the show.

Abbington took to Instagram where she reposted a clip from the Strictly page of Scanlon and Gu saying their goodbyes.

The official Strictly account captioned the farewell clip: “Angela’s leaving with incredible memories and shown her daughters that anything is possible.

“They’ll always have that Argentine Tango and that Charleston! Well done @angelascanlon and @gkx_carlos #Strictly.”

Abbington posted this on her Instagram story along with her own caption which read: “Phenomenal couple.

“Love these dudes so much,” Abbington added before she signed off with a series of love heart emojis.

Abbington failed to mention or congratulate Williams on his progression in the competition.

However, she wasn’t the only member of the Strictly 2024 class to send their support to Scanlon following the devastating dance-off loss.

Reacting to Strictly’s clip, pro dancers Gorka Marquez, Nancy Xu and Graziano di Prima were just three stars who admitted they “loved” seeing Scanlon in the contest.

Williams will now compete against Annabel Croft, Ellie Leach, Nigel Harman and Bobby Brazier for a spot in the semi-final.

However, Williams faces an uphill battle to usurp Leach at the top of bookmakers’ odds to bag the Glitterball Trophy with the Coronation Street star now the odds-on frontrunner to bag the win.
