Forget browsing holiday brochures before choosing your next getaway, or even scrolling online.

Many tourists are opting for a more high-tech way to check out potential holiday destinations.

easyJet and easyJet Holidays’ annual Great British Holiday Audit 2026 looked into the travel trends for the coming year.

The airline and travel company found almost half – 49 per cent – of holidaymakers will be making the most of technology to ‘try before you fly’.

Brits will be wandering around the streets of Venice on a VR headset to see what their hotel looks like from the street.

Alternatively, they might choose to watch a vlog online to get a feel of their next destination.

Virtual street view is another way Brits will be utilising technology to thoroughly research before booking.

The use of impressive devices for holidays doesn’t stop there.

easyJet found technology will also come in handy for breaking down language barriers abroad.

Many Brits aren’t having to worry if their French or Spanish is up to scratch, as they are turning to tech to help translate.

Some 22 per cent are embracing translating technology on their holidays.

Aside from new tech, Brits are hoping to visit new places too, and 52 per cent said they were planning to explore somewhere different this year

Travel expert Nigel Thompson says, ‘Preview power makes complete sense when you are spending hard-earned money on a holiday.

‘Tech tools give travellers the ability to check out in advance anything from beach bar views to restaurant menus and Google Maps is incredibly useful for “exploring” around a hotel’s local area to see what’s walkable or even wheelchair/buggy-friendly.’

Despite it still being the first month of the year, a whopping 51 per cent of Brits have already booked a holiday for 2026.

Meanwhile, the average length of a holiday booked this year works out to be 10 days.

But what type of trips are Brits going on? easyJet found 50 per cent intend to take a beach holiday.

Some 45 per cent plan to book a city break away, while 20 per cent want a ‘nature-focused holiday’.

TV shows and films are also influencing which destinations Brits choose, with 28 per cent admitting this.

Kenton Jarvis, easyJet CEO commented on the trends and says: ‘It is great to see more people exploring new destinations, using new technology in innovative ways and seeking out alternative experiences and I am proud of the part easyJet continues to play in helping to shape how each generation travels, while always aiming to make travel easy and accessible for all.’
