Alex de Minaur raises eyebrows with a VERY revealing statement on marrying his fellow tennis star girlfriend Katie Boulter

  • Couple have been together three years
  • Are the power couple on the tennis circuit
  • Questions swirling over when they could get married

Rising Australian tennis talent Alex de Minaur has beaten some of the biggest names in the sport recently, but he was off the court when he came under the most pressure he’s faced all summer.

De Minaur, 24, ended Novak Djokovic’s 43-match winning streak at the United Cup and has also beaten US star and world No.10 Taylor Fritz.

However, questions over when he is going to take his relationship with girlfriend and British tennis star Katie Boulter, 27, to the next level stopped the Aussie star in his tracks.

De Minaur and Boulter met on the tournament circuit, initially keeping things casual until a coffee date three years ago changed everything.

Comedian Ash Williams, affiliated with ‘The ATP Podcast,’ put the big question to de Minaur at a press conference on Wednesday night.

He asked: ‘Will we get a proposal to Katie after the AO [Australian Open]?’

‘Jeez. Putting me on the spot here,’ de Minaur replied.

‘Yeah, it’s not on the cards just yet. Not ruling it out. For the time being, I’m going to try to focus on playing tennis and then we’ll think about the off-court activities.’

Williams persisted, asking: ‘If you win the AO?’

‘It wouldn’t be a bad way to celebrate, let’s just say that,’ replied de Minaur.

De Minaur is currently at the peak of his powers as his form hits a timely purple patch just ahead of the Australian Open starting on January 14.

His impressive 6-4, 6-4 victory over Djokovic in the United Cup was significant, despite Djokovic expressing complaints about a wrist injury both during and after the match.

‘Novak is an unbelievable competitor and what he’s done for the sport is pretty special. It feels surreal, amazing, and I’m very happy to do it here in Perth,’ de Minaur said.

‘When you go up against Novak you have to go out and enjoy it and back yourself, and no matter what keep fighting until the end. Today was my day and I’m happy that I was able to get the win.’

Meanwhile, Australian wildcard Arina Rodionova’s bright run came to a crashing halt against 16-year-old Russian sensation Mirra Andreeva.

The teenager, already ranked as high as No.43 in the world, took just 64 minutes in a 6-1 6-1 win that denied 34-year-old Rodionova entry into the world’s top 100 for the first time.

Rodionova had beaten former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin to reach the third round in Brisbane.

She won seven ITF titles in 2023 to become Australia’s highest-ranked female, but will need a wildcard to earn entry into this month’s Australian Open.

Andreeva will meet 19-year-old Linda Noskova for a place in the final four after the Czech talent, who burst on to the scene in Australia a year ago, beat Argentina’s Julia Riera in three sets.
