Two teenagers have been praised as heroes after intervening to wrestle a mugger to the ground outside an Aldi supermarket.

The boys were lauded after they tackled a man who snatched an elderly woman’s handbag in Prestwich.

An eyewitness said the pair “put him to the floor” and pinned him down until the police arrived.

Celebrating the heroic actions of the two boys on social media, the onlooker said: “A very very well done to the two teenage boys who chased a man who stole a handbag of a elderly lady and put him to the floor near Aldi.”

They added that “Not only did the lady get her bag, back the 2 boys managed to keep this man to the floor until police arrived (they where big lads) absolute respect to you both.”

The eyewitness said they were “the person who called 999” and that they wanted to give a reward to the two teenagers.

The boys’ actions led to an outpouring of support on Facebook with Prestwich locals congratulating the way they handled the situation.

“Fair play to these two lads.

“It’s great to see that there are good decent young lads out there that will protect the elderly and vulnerable people. Great job,” one person said.

Another wrote: “What a heartwarming Xmas story, well done.”

Meanwhile a third said: “There are more good people out there than bad. Well done to those lads and I hope the lady is ok.”

Another person called for others to start replicating the boys actions in future.

“If everyone had a go when something like this happened it wouldn’t happen as often,” they said.

“Same with bike thieves… if 30 people surrounded them they’d think twice in future.”
