Two new episodes of Silent Witness were pulled by the BBC this week in light of a real life incident.

The crime drama, which has been in air since 1996, was set to air instalments called The Enemy Within on Monday and Tuesday, in a storyline that involved a stabbing in Birmingham.

Original episodes saw the team following a fatal stabbing in the West Midlands city which appears to have been racially motivated.

As the investigation begins, racial tensions rise in the area.

However, the BBC decided to pull episodes three and four of the current series after a tragedy in Birmingham took place on Saturday night.

The incident saw two teenagers attacked with a machete outside a shop, with the victims hospitalised, one with “life-changing injuries”.

West Midlands Police later confirmed a 12 year old boy had been detained on suspicion of attempted murder.

The official Instagram account of Silent Witness announced on the social media page: “This week’s new Silent Witness is now on @BBCiPlayer, in a change to the previously billed episodes. #SilentWitness.”

Instead, what were meant to be episodes five and six replaced The Enemy Within instalments.

Speaking to TV Guide, a BBC spokesperson confirmed: “Due to the attack in Birmingham over the weekend, this week’s episodes of Silent Witness will not transmit as planned and instead have been replaced with two episodes from later in the series.”

The programme has been on air for 30 years, with Emilia Fox having starred as leading lady Dr Nikki Alexander since 2004 after Amanda Burton’s exit.

The current 29th series saw the show relocating from London to Birmingham after Nikki took a job setting up a new forensic office in the city.

Ms Fox recently shred a rare update on her personal life, disclosing that she and television producer partner Jonathan Stadlen ended things in February last year.

The actress star opened up about the split in a recent interview, revealing how she has been coping in the months since.

Speaking to Radio Times, Ms Fox shared: “Actually, Jonathan and I separated last February.

“The end of a relationship is always sad, but with age and life experience, you draw on the things that make you feel better and do them, like going on girly trips with [Ms Fox’s daughter] Rose and being with friends.”

The actress reflected on how maturity has helped her process the end of the relationship, acknowledging that drawing on past experiences has been crucial to moving forward.

With nearly twelve months having passed since the separation, the 50-year-old actress said she is now in a positive place.
