While most of the UK hangs up their wet raincoats and turns on their central heating in a bid to warm up after a day out in the cold, you could be jetting away to a winter sun destination.

Holidaymakers seeking warmer temperatures during the cooler months will want somewhere offering plenty of sunshine and with pristine beaches.

Fortunately, easyJet’s Holiday Hotlist has identified the perfect spot after analysing criteria such as typical winter temperature, hours of sun light per day, time difference with UK and average price of a meal out for four.

Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh came out top with its clear waters packed with vivid coral reefs.

It’s located perfectly for soaking up the sun between the Sinai desert and the Red Sea coast, reaching average temperatures of between 24C and 26C.

The location also basks in 10 hours of daily sunlight and has plenty of historical spots to explore like the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saint Catherine’s Monastery.

Or, for travellers looking for something more adventurous, you can head on a camel trek across the Sinai desert.

easyJet priced up a seven-night holiday to the Red Sea resort for just £660 for two people, including flights.

The area is quite affordable too, with the average price of a meal out for a family of four coming to £65 and a pint costing around £2.50.

Hurghada closely followed in second place boasting highs of around 21C to 25C in the winter months.

Located on the east coast of Egypt, it offers just as many hours of sunshine a day as Sharm El Sheikh too.

It offers coral reefs and Saharan landscapes primed for family friendly excursions such as quad biking or Jeep safari.

A week-long stay comes to around £650 for two people and a meal out for four averages at just £48.

Gran Canaria ranked third best, with slightly lower temperatures of around 20C to 22C.

Seven nights on the popular Canary Island, including flights, comes to £560 and a pint only costs around £1.75 on average.

With temperatures between 21 and 22C, another Canary Island – Lanzarote – followed in fourth place, costing £600 for a couple to spend a week there.
