A driver has been slammed after taking part in a police chase across Hertfordshire, topping speeds of more than 145mph.
The Roads Policing Unit of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Police posted about the incident on social media.
A Volkswagen Golf R failed to stop when requested by the policing unit in the early hours of Saturday (January 24) across East Hertfordshire.
The car then sped off, leading the police units on a “lengthy pursuit” around the county, clocking at a staggering 145mph.
Once the motorist was finally stopped, he was reported for several offences. He was also only holding a provisional driving licence.
Posting on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, the Roads Policing Unit discovered that the vehicle was also uninsured.
They added: “Vehicle recovered for no insurance. It is believed that occupants of the vehicle were also filming the pursuit on their mobile phones.
“Each has denied this, so all phones have been seized so that this evidence can be obtained.”

The post on X was accompanied with the hashtag “play silly games”, with many in the comments praising the police for their work.
One commenter said: “The car needs crushing as long as it’s not stolen. In front of them, so they can see their money being destroyed.
“A ban from driving for life! A driving licence is not a right!”
Some of the commenters reiterated these calls, saying that they should never be able to get behind the wheel of a car again.

Drivers can be slapped with a maximum fine of up to £2,500 if they plead not guilty and are found guilty of speeding on a motorway.
The BCH Road Policing Unit also uncovered a stolen Hyundai in Potters Bar, a week after it had been stolen in Bedfordshire.
The vehicle was located with false number plates and recovered. The police confirmed that “enquiries were in hand”.
