The UK Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that Father Christmas has received all necessary approvals to operate his annual flight on Christmas Eve.

After a thorough inspection by flight safety inspectors, Santa’s sleigh has passed every check to ensure a safe and smooth journey.

Father Christmas won’t be the only person flying this Christmas day as the number of people taking flights continues to risk year on year.

Christmas Day 2025 is expected to be 70 per cent busier than it was only a decade ago.

The regulator has checked that ‘all elf and safety checks are complete’.

It has also confirmed: ‘Rudolph’s nose is bright enough to guide the sleigh through adverse weather conditions.

‘Mistletoe has been stowed safely in overhead lockers.

‘Christmas cheer is handled by qualified experts.

‘The sleigh bells are ringing at an acceptable decibel level.’

The CAA adds: ‘Reindeer have been granted their rooftop runway rights.

Giancarlo Buono, director of safety and airspace regulation at the UK CAA, said: ‘Santa is cleared for take-off and ready to deliver Christmas cheer across the globe.

‘So, if you are flying this festive season, follow Santa’s example and pack safe fly safe.’

The CAA works year-round to keep aviation safe, and Christmas is no exception.

For those not travelling by sleigh, the regulator is reminding passengers to pack safe, fly safe to avoid delays and keep everyone moving this holiday season.

The CAA has also listed some helpful festive travel tips to improve the ease of journeys during the season.

Firstly, carry electronics (phones, laptops, vapes) in hand luggage.

It’s also been advised to leave presents unwrapped – they may need to be inspected at security.

Check airline rules before packing items like Christmas crackers.

Switch off electrical devices in checked luggage completely.

Party poppers are banned on UK aircraft, and airlines may have specific rules for other festive items. Always check before you travel.
