Growing orchids successfully can be a daunting task, even for the most seasoned gardeners, who often face challenges coaxing new blooms from the plants.
According to one orchid enthusiast, however, a simple water-based growing technique offers fresh hope for orchid enthusiasts.
In a recent clip, Valerie Hendricks demonstrated how a straightforward water culture method can yield remarkable results.
The content creator told her followers: “Growing orchids in water has been the easiest way I’ve found to keep my orchids thriving. Converting orchids to water culture is so simple too.”

“I have never had success growing orchids until I started growing them in water,” the content creator declared in her clip.
“Four months ago, this orchid only had one single stem when I decided to convert it to waterculture.
“Within four months, this other stem grew out of it with all these flowers, and it started to grow a new stem too.”
The results speak volumes of the method’s effectiveness, as Valerie’s plant had produced several offshoots covered in fresh blooms.
She went on to demonstrate how to prepare the plant for water culture, emphasising how important it is to remove moss from the root system first.
“Once it is all removed, this is when you can get rid of bad roots,” she said.
“Cut off anything that is wet and mushy and anything that is dried out and paper thin.”
Placing the orchid in a vase, Valerie added just enough water to ensure the tip of the roots was submerged in liquid but nothing else.
“Just remember orchids love bright light but never keep them under direct sunlight.”
Organic ingredients have also emerged as potential solutions for orchid owners seeking to achieve long-lasting blooms.
Rice, in particular, has been explored as a source of nourishment for the plants, with many users reporting success using the pantry staple as a fertiliser. A content creator who uses the handle florence_brokefanoftay on TikTok recently lauded the hack for helping coax her orchids into bloom.
