Yankees fans cried for Aaron Boone’s firing after their team dramatically collapsed in Game 5 in the World Series and allowed the Los Angeles Dodgers to secure the title in the Bronx.
Boone’s side was up 5-0 before a catastrophic meltdown in the fifth inning saw LA complete the largest comeback victory to clinch a World Series, winning 7-6.
While the players had a laundry list of errors in the loss, fans pointed much of the blame on Boone’s late-game decisions in what Alex Rodriguez called ‘One of the biggest meltdowns I’ve seen in 40 years.’
‘I knew it was trouble when they showed him laughing in the dugout up 5-0,’ one fan wrote.
‘Literally the worst manager of baseball history, useless sack of s***,’ a second exclaimed. ‘If they don’t fire him they should knock his pay down.’
Yankees fans fumed at manager Aaron Boone after losing the World Series in five games
Down 0-5, the LA Dodgers completed the biggest comeback in a title clinching victory
‘There is absolutely no reason Aaron Boone should remain the manager of the Yankees, a third chimed in. ‘Absolutely terrible decisions from not bunting guys to not using your best pitchers with the game on the line. Unbelievable.’
‘If Aaron Boone isn’t fired before we wake up in the morning we riot,’ a fourth wrote.
A fifth user wrote ‘The Aaron Boone Legacy,’ over a graphic of the Yankees’ miscues on Wednesday night.
The list included three errors, a catcher’s interference, a balk, and five unearned runs. It also mentioned Gerrit Cole’s failure to cover the first base on a Mookie Betts run, which spelled the beginning of the end for the Bronx Bombers.
Fans flamed Boone’s decision making after the catastrophic meltdown at Yankee Stadium
‘I’m heartbroken,’ Boone said in his postgame press conference. ‘I’m 51, I poured my life into that so you’re chasing that(winning feeling) and when you get that close, it’s heartbreaking.’
Boone joined the Yankees in 2018 and had a 603-429 record in his seven seasons. He also led the talented roster to the playoffs in each season, except 2023.
The infuriating fumble in Game 5 came after the Yankees lit the five boroughs up by avoiding a sweep on Tuesday. After being down 0-3 in the series, New York won Game 4, 11-4.
Unfortunately for the Yankees, the Dodgers, who took care of the New York Mets in the NLCS, took care of business to win their eighth title and second in the last five years.
