Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has sent David de Gea the perfect message after his superb performance during Fiorentina’s 2-1 win over AC Milan on Sunday.
The former United goalkeeper played a key role for his team, saving two penalties from Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham respectively. De Gea then went on to make several important saves to keep Fiorentina in the game.
Speaking to reporters after the game, the ex Old Trafford shot-stopper brushed off his heroics. As quoted by Tribal Football, he said: “It’s an incredible night. We have been working really hard for a couple of months.

“I’d prefer to talk about that more than the penalty saves, as we wanted to make the fans happy. This evening’s victory is very important against a big club like Milan. We are working so hard and finally it is starting to pay off.”
On the other hand, Milan boss Paulo Fonseca said there was a mixture of anger afterwards. “Our designated penalty taker is [Christian] Pulisic,” he revealed. “I don’t know why the players changed their minds. I have spoken to them and told them that this can’t happen again. When we miss two penalties and concede a goal like the last one, it becomes difficult to win despite creating a lot.”
De Gea took to Instagram to share some pictures of the night and wrote: “Started in Spain, made in Manchester, loving it in Italy,” followed by a purple heart emoji.
Fernandes has kept a close eye on his former United teammate’s career since he left Old Trafford in the summer of 2023. The Portuguese wrote in the comments section: “Legend,” followed by a love heart.
Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Alejandro Garnacho and former United star Scott McTominay were also spotted in the comments section. De Gea ended his status as a free agent in the summer, joining Fiorentina on a one-year contract after being a year without a club.
